What is the difference in the Modern KJV verses the regular KJV?

I downloaded the MKJV for my Palm along with a few other versions and even some Greek texts from OliveTree (http://www.olivetree.com/index.php - most are free, check it out smile.gif ). They were charging $5 for the KJV, but the MKJV was free.. and since I didn't want to pay.

Anyway, I've never really even heard of the MKJV, what's the difference?

MKJV is from brother JP Green at Sovereign Grace publishers. It's also available from E-sword. It's an update of the KJV into more modern english similar to the NKJV. It can be purchased from them but is out of print now and will not be ready until late summer. I have see some of thier Bibles (MKJV, LITV) and they are very nice. I intend to purchase one of each as soon as they're ready but for the time being you can read each on E-sword.

I had a MKJV that I was borrowing for a while, and was very impressed with it. It's consistent with the KJV (on a sidenote, I see no reason why a KJVOist would reject it).

I've read it, and I certainly wouldn't reject it either...and for that matter, I don't reject the KJV, AV 1611, Geneva, or Bishop's Bible, either.

I like both the MKJV and LITV.

The Children's King James Bible was first published in 1962. This version is also known as the Modern King James Version of the Holy Bible. A revision called The King James II Bible was published in 1971, and other revisions followed in 1990, 1993, 1998 and 1999. The MKJV is an attempt by Jay P. Green, Sr. to modernize the King James Version. This version has not "caught on," and has no large following.
- from History of the English Bible copyright 2003-2004 F. Keith MinceyAlthough the MKJV is much like the original KJV, and it is based on the textus receptus like the KJV, there is just enough difference that folks in the KJVO camp will not accept it. I have a 1999 printing of the MKJV. It is a text only edition with not even a cross reference system. Every now and then I haul out the MKJV but I mainly stick with the NKJV, the KJV or the NASB.

I've never really even heard of the MKJV, what's the difference? One difference between the Modern KJV and the KJV is that the MKJV updates a number of archaic words in the KJV. While they are both based on the same underlying texts, there are a few places where they differ on how to best translate those texts.

Here are a few examples differences:

Gen. 1:28
fill the earth (1560 Geneva, MKJV)
replenish the earth (KJV)

Gen. 30:37
hazel (KJV)
almond (1380's Wycliffe's, MKJV)

Gen. 36:24
mules (KJV)
hot springs (MKJV)

Exod. 5:8a
the number of bricks (Tyndale's, MKJV)
the tale of the bricks (KJV)

Exod. 15:3
The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name (KJV)
The LORD is a man of war; Jehovah is His name (MKJV)

Exod. 29:40
tenth part (1560 Geneva, MKJV)
tenth deal (KJV)

Lev. 12:8
turtledoves (1535 Coverdale's, MKJV)
turtles (KJV)

1 Sam. 14:45
God forbid (KJV)
Far be it! (MKJV)

1 Sam. 20:40
weapons (1535 Coverdale's, 1537 Matthew's, MKJV)
artillery (KJV)

2 Sam. 16:16
God save the king (KJV)
Let the king live (MKJV)

Are there any serious doctrinal issues with the MKJV? What is the difference between the MKJV and the NKJV or the KJV21? Are these based on the TR/Majority Texts as well?

They are based on the TR as is the NKJV.
