Had my taxes done today.

I owe $2,000!!!! http://www.smileyhut.com/sad/crying.gif

I changed Christian schools in September of 2007 and received a significant pay increase that obviously extended to all of 2008. That, coupled with my retirement check and a pay increase from my church put me a new tax bracket!!!!

I'm thinking about contributing the maximum to my IRA and knocking it down to $1,100 but that's taking a chunk out of my new car fund.

What would Dave Ramsey do? What would you do? http://www.smileyhut.com/sad/crying.gif

I'd make a significant contribution to the padre early retirement fund. It might not lower your taxes but it sure would make me feel better. I'd even be nice to your cat.

Buy gold with any disposable income. It is appreciating faster than any 401K plan......

I would do exactly that, simply because you would wind up getting something out of your money rather than just paying it to the IRS.

I'll be sending you my bill for providing tax advice.

Make that a "new to me car fund," now that it is common to buy a used car with 40,000 miles of transferrable warranty.

you could also make it know you'd like to be in Obama's cabinet. If you owe taxes, you'd fit right in! :D Of course, to actually fit in, you'd have to not pay the taxes until interest & penalties set in...

Seriously, I echo CCRob's advice.
