Nope. I'm homeschooling, too. This part of the board has been really quiet lately, though.

Right now homeschool is the best choice for us. We're currently using Abeka with a few extras from friends and family, and some free things from the internet.

I like Abeka, but we're getting burned out on it. Next year we will check into some other curriculums and do more of a mixture for different subjects.

I used ABeka, Sonlight, and Saxon with my older girls.

Now I'm using ABeka math and Bob Jones everything else with my younger two.

Why am I homeschooling? I started out with an ADD child who did not succeed in 1st grade so we pulled her home. Sent #2 to kindy while I learned to homeschool and was more than happy to pull her home the next year because of a bad attitude she developed. From that point on, homeschooling was our choice until 9th grade with each when we sent them back to the high school for different reasons for each.

With the youngers, school wasn't even an option. Will we send them to school in 9th grade like we did with their sisters? I don't know. We'll have to see where God leads us at that time. :)

I homeschool 5. I use my own lessons---more of a one-room school house setting. We have structured class for only 3 hours a day. The rest of the day, we practice more of an "un-schooling" approach, which aside from writing skills has proved to be a better way of learning, in my opinion.

I homeschool because it's the only way for our kids to get an English education.

    Another homeschooling mom here!

Nice to "meet" y'all! I think it's fun to see what other moms like me are up to. I like to hear about what you all like about your curriculum choices, room setup, schedules, styles/methods, etc.

I'm currently homeschooling three out of my five kids. (The other two are preschool-aged.) We've used (and liked)...

    Saxon math

Veritas Press history, Bible, and literature

Apologia science (looking for other options, though--what do you like?)

Rod and Staff English (nice price tag and just as rigorous as ABeka, IMO)

    Latina Christiana series for Latin

Fonts4Teachers handwriting (computer software I use to make up our own practice sheets)

    Spelling Workout (Modern Curriculum Press)

Although we're on the "home stretch" of the school year, we are planning to do science throughout the summer.

I'd love to hear more about what y'all are doing!

    here too

    We homeschool three children here...

Combination of Abeka, Christian Kids Explore series, Rosetta Stone foreign languages (German for one child, Spanish for another), Bob Jones (Pre-algebra and algebra),

Next year adding apologia science to the mix.

Beth - I think you'll love Apologia Science. I know all of us did. I was sorry to send the kids back to school and miss out on biology!

What have you all found to be as advanced as Abeka? Yesterday I shopped around, but the workbooks I found (at the Parent-Teacher store) were 2 grade levels behind what my girls are currently learning, although they were recommended for the same grade level.

Also, if you do not use a specific curriculum, how do you know how much work is "enough" for the school year? It seems like Abeka has a lot of worksheets, but much of it is repitition.

We (my wife) homeschools our 5 and will homeschool #6 when she arrives. We usually start around 4 or 5 years old. We use Bob Jones and other mats, but mostly Bob Jones.

My wife homeschools our ten year old son. We love the flexability and the the fact that my wife can challenge him to achieve a higher level than the public school could.

    love the pre-algebra

I love the pre-algebra...our twelve year old is doing well with it this year...we will continue through the algebras with BJ. VERY comprehensive sequence and scope.

Yes, we homeschool and it's the best decision we ever made. The only "program" we use is ALEKS for math and to suppliment chemistry.

I homeschooled my grandson from 4th grade-9th grade. We used A.C.E. School of Tomorrow PACES and we both loved them. If I ever have the opportunity to homeschool another grandchild, we will use it again.
