    (CNSNews.com) – Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), who once accused U.S. Marines of killing “innocent” Iraqi civilians “in cold blood,” has received a Distinguished Public Service Award from the U.S. Navy, to the disgust of some Americans.

    Murtha, chairman of a House defense appropriations subcommittee, received the award on March 5 from Navy Secretary Donald Winter. The award is the highest form of public service recognition bestowed by the Department of the Navy for a non-employee.

    Murtha received the award for his “selfless devotion to the Nation’s sailors and Marines.”

    He's not receiving an award for his service. He's receiving an award that someone that hasn't served can receive. And yes, the guy is a scum bag and shouldn't be receiving anything.

    Murtha is a disgrace as a member of Congress and as a veteran.

    I wouldn't be so quick to say he is a disgrace as a veteran, as that is saying his years of service were a disgrace. He's been stupid the past few years and for that he deserves to be outed, but let's not put down a man's service to his country.

    Why would anyone be surprised? If you look hard enough you can find a few people who will object to anyone you can mention behind honored. Just more sensalationism by some reporter who has nothing important to report.

    Your efforts to minimize Murtha's reprehensible behavior are noted and to be expected.

    It appears you are not concerned about the Marines whose careers he ruined and reputatations he slandered with his public pronouncement that they were "cold blooded killers".
