Congressmen from both sides of the aisle who were outraged over bonuses at AIG are taking $$ from firms who were bailed out.

I don't have speakers, so I couldn't hear what was being said, but it was asking if campaign contributions should be returned. I don't think contributions should be returned. If you can't afford to contribute to a politician that you strongly support, then don't give to them. Its that simple.

I only contributed to one person's campaign & that was Pat Buchanan. I attended a fund raiser dinner in Montgomery in 2000. I thought it was very reasonable at $100.00 a plate. That was lots cheaper than G.W. Bush's fund raiser dinner at $500.00 a plate. There wasn't a large crowd there which was good & bad. It was good in the fact that we got to ask more questions, more time was devoted to those questions, & we got to talk with him (as well as get photographs). It was bad in the fact that there wasn't as much support as I had hoped. It still didn't change my vote.

Another thing too, on the 1040 tax form, I never contribute to the Presidential Election Fund. Even though that $3.00 contribution doesn't affect your taxes one way or the other, that $3.00 may go to a candidate who you don't support. I would strongly encourage everyone else to do the same.

I do not care what party you are with. Taking contributions after taking bailouts is wrong. It is taking tax payer money for their individual campaigns. Everyone who has served more than two terms should go.

Tim, I am reminded of Mark Twain's quote:

"Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."
While I am with you in general terms, I am not quite ready to throw out the baby with the bathwater. There are some, albeit seemingly rare, public servants in Congress who are there for the betterment of our nation. However, the way things are going, I could definitely be persuaded to join you in your campaign to clean house (and the Senate too! )

I thought it was just referring to campaign contributions. I didn't know it was in refernce to contributions after receiving bailout money. In that case, I definetely agree.

I also agree that there should be termlimits on the Senate & Congressional seats too.

BigBossMan, it is about Congressmen taking campaign contributions from firms who received bailout money. To speak in proverbs, the fox is guarding the hen house. We have the best government money can buy!

    MP,
Isn't that the nature of politics. Politicians don't care where the money comes from. For all our complaining it will gain us nothing unless like Tiny Tim says----we throw the bums out.

Isn't it redundant to use the words "crook" and "politician" in the same thread?

There are term limits, already. They are 6 and 2 years respectively.

The problem is there are no term limits on ignorant, self-seeking, just plain lazy, or crooked voters.
