Is saving faith a synecdoche which encompasses belief, confession and repentance? Or is faith alone to be understood absolutely?
I believe faith is to be understood as a synecdoche.
One must beleive and confess Christ according to Romans 10:10 and one must repent (Acts 17:30).

    Your thoughts......

Well, first you're going to have to define "synecdoche" for this old country girl!

But salvation is by grace through faith...nothing else.

    Hi Amy!

It is simply a word that is used to describe the whole. For example, if I said, "He has a nice set of wheels" I am referring to more than just the wheels but the entire car.
So when I say saving faith I believe it is understood that confession (Romans 10:10) and repentance (Acts 17:30) are included.

Does one have to confess Christ in order to be saved? I believe Romans 10:10 says yes.
Does one have to repent in order to be saved? I believe Acts 17:30 says yes.
These are part of saving faith.

    Thanks!

Yes, the bible says that we must repent (have a change of mind) and confess Jesus as Lord. I think this is what is included in the word "believe". (synecdoche)

    Correct?

I believe you are correct based on the Bible.

    God bless Amy!
