79% Believe Jesus Christ Rose from the Dead

The 3% of Evangelical's that don't believe Jesus was God's Son and that He didn't rise from the dead aren't Evangelical.

 

People only believe Jesus rose from the dead because it's true. :thumbs:

 

Isn't it strange that there are 3% of people who believe Jesus Christ was the Son of God who died for our sins, yet don't believe he rose from the dead? Looks like they believe a strange, false doctrine for sure.

Let me say that I believe Jesus both died in my place, and that he rose bodily from the grave, praise God!

 

Before I was a Christian and when I was a New Ager and an astrologer, I would have said that I believed in the resurrection. So it doesn't mean that much to me that so many people said this. They might say it because they were taught it, or because they think it's a good answer and don't want to say they don't believe it, or they believe it's true but it means nothing special to them.

For myself, I believed in reincarnation but thought Jesus rose from the dead because that part of the world did not accept reincarnation, so this resurrection thing got their attention (to show Jesus was an advanced spiritual master). If you believe in reincarnation, astral travel, the Avatars, spirit guides, etc. it's not such a big deal to say that Jesus resurrected.

 

I agree, I've known people who believed this because they were taught it, but it meant nothing to them, they were christians. Before I was saved, I believe Jesdus, He was God's Sin, died and rose, because this is what I was always told, but it was nothing to me, I wasn't saved because of it. Even now I know people who beleive it, but want nothing to do with Jesus, or salvation.

 

I think believe in your head and believe in your heart is very different. :type:

 

That survey seems to make no distinction about "risen from the dead" as to whether that means physically or in some other sense. And there definitely are people who consider themselves Christians who do not believe Jesus physically rose again.

In fact, that's the message given in the movie, The Greatest Story Ever Told. The final scene shows the disciples standing around talking, like, "Wait a minute-- didn't he say he was going to rise to his Father in heaven" or some such thing as scripture indicates they might have said. Then it ends with a 'vaporized' image of the Jesus character in the clouds, folding his arms in, like half-way between beckoning and a signing "I love you." As they skip the tomb and angel(s) and Mary Magdalene, and go straight to the final scene, I can only assume the idea is something like "To those who think he really live still, he does," or "He lives only in the love he taught." It's a liberal Christian, maybe even Unitarian, view.

 

Alcott, you make a good point. Saying that one believes Jesus rose from the dead does not necessarily mean they believe in a bodily resurrection.

I am not sure if I ever saw "The Greatest Story Ever Told," but that ending sounds terrible! It's like the view of a mystical ghostly Jesus sort of floating off to heaven without a body.
