People here don't seem to want to acknowledge this. I'm glad to see Al Mohler is weighing in.

He sure caved on that one didn't he? I would like to hear the reasoning behind his change.

    Warren cancels ABC appearance

Pastor Rick Warren, after making apparently contradictory statements about his stance on a gay-marriage measure, canceled an Easter Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week” just “moments before the scheduled interview,” host George Stephanopoulos told viewers.............

..........Here’s what Warren said in an endorsement video, now on YouTube: “We support Proposition 8. And if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8. … I urge you to support Proposition 8, and pass that on. … Everybody knows what I believe about it.” http://tr.im/iCnk

Here’s what Warren said on Larry King: “I am not an anti-gay or anti-gay marriage activist. I never have been, never will be. During the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement, never — never once even gave an endorsement in the two years Prop 8 was going..........

I Cor. 15:33 "Do not be deceived; 'Bad company corrupts good morals'"

I pray Warren realizes the slide toward compromise that he is currently on.

    peace to you:praying:

Wow, talk about a fork tongue...

I would sure like to have a one on one with Pastor Warren to see where his head is at. I don't know if the pressure is over bearing or does he need confirmation that we are with him as long as he is with God.

If he ask, God's army will stand by his side if he stands with God (I will at least)...

If I recall, he took some wording off his website just after prop 8 passed. In my view, that's like taking the cross of your Church because it offends someone. I am really curious about what's behind all this flip flopping. I will keep him lifted in prayer.

I do not know if we know the whole story yet but this should be our attitude.

    Rick Warren explains cancellation

    Rick Warren explains cancellation

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,“Throughout his pastoral ministry spanning nearly 30 years, Pastor Warren has remained committed to the biblical definition of marriage as between one man and one woman, for life — a position held by most fellow Evangelical pastors. He has further stressed that for 5,000 years, EVERY culture and EVERY religion has maintained this worldview.

“When Pastor Warren told Larry King that he never campaigned for California's Proposition 8, he was referring to not participating in the official two-year organized advocacy effort specific to the ballot initiative in that state, based on his focus and leadership on other compassion issues. Because he's a pastor, not an activist, in response to inquiries from church members, he issued an email and video message to his congregation days before the election confirming where he and Saddleback Church stood on this issue.

“During the King interview, Pastor Warren also referenced a letter of apology that he sent to gay leaders whom he knew personally. However, that mea culpa was not with respect to his statements or position on Proposition 8 nor the biblical worldview on marriage. Rather, he apologized for his comments in an earlier Beliefnet interview expressing his concern about expanding or redefining the definition of marriage beyond a husband-wife relationship, during which he unintentionally and regrettably gave the impression that consensual adult same sex relationships were equivalent to incest or pedophilia.”

Rick Warren doesn't explain anything. He sent a PR person to try and explain things away.

That was my understanding from Sodom. All of that is considered wicked and wickedness is wickedness. And wickedness causes blindness.

Ge 19:6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

    Gracious answer.

Rick Warren was telling his stance in the public realm of organizing a drive against gay marriage. He was not involved in that at all. Instead, he told his own home church what our stand as Christians should be in regards to what marriage is. Because of that, he's crucified by both the world and the church. That's sad.

I do think that his stance could be stronger against some things but Rick Warren is also addressing social issues that the church has turned her back on. His agenda is not political, it's dealing with social issues in a Biblical way. I just can't believe the attacks on him because of that.

It's totally true that it's only the church that shoots it's wounded.

Wouldn't it be way better if we commited to pray for men like Rick Warren and others who are in the public ministry? Pray for them along with our own pastors and leaders? And while we're at it, why don't we pray that God will give US a heart for the lost, forsaken and cast away?

He posted a video on the Internet. That's a little more than just telling his home church something. The man who is known as America's Pastor posts a video on his blog that says:

It wasn't me (a person nobody knows) posting a video on the Internet. This was Rick Warren posting a video on the Internet. He knew full well that it was going to be viewed by people that were not members of his church.

He then later comes out and says:

Sorry...it just doesn't add up properly.

That is a blog to his church. It's not a political statement. It is a pastor who speaks to his own congregation - and others may listen just as others may listen when a pastor is speaking from the pulpit and someone gets a hold of the tape or listens to an MP3 of it online.

Let's look at what he actually said in context:

    Yes, let's...here's your bolded part:

What he actually said (which was in a video posted on the Internet and not a "note) was:

That does a little more than just talk about what marriage is. It does a lot more! He urges people "to support Proposition 8, and pass that word on." Additionally he said he is going to be "sending out a note to pastors on what I believe about this", which means he would do even more to promote Prop 8. So...much more than just a "note" to his members.

Just to be clear, I was very happy to hear the Warren supported Prop 8. I thought it was a great thing. I heard about his support before the election and I'm in Florida! I'm not a member of his church and I don't regularly listen to him. For a "note" to his members, it sure got around!

He did speak about what marriage is - and how it pertains to Prop 8. You're really stretching a lot to crucify the man. Why is that?

He did what he said. His quotes were taken out of context to make it what it was not. Your posting the transcript from the video just proves that he said what he did - WHEN he said he did. It confirms the truth.

To me it speaks about a man. If people have a problem with something I've said, I don't send someone else to explain it. I go and deal with the situation myself. I guess Warren is just more important than me and other "commoners" though :).

I am not a big fan of Rick Warren, but this thread and the other one proves that some people have way too much time on their hands.

Why would a church leader have sodomite friends and be so braggadocious about it? We try to discourage our kids from having the wrong kind of friends, but now here is the "New Billy Graham" bragging about his sodomite friends.

I'm with you Roy. Some people on this board, however, think it is OK to have homosexual friends.
