Ehrman has been thoroughly discreditted. I think that is obvious by now. He's just sensationalizing other people's ideas. Nothing he writes is original (or scholastically accurate.)

Dr. Mohler makes a very good case (which is often par for the course.) This is the kind of "liberal nonsense" that I praise God the SBC still stands against. There are people out there who really want to attempt to destroy what God has given us. Thankfully we have vanguards of the faith like Dr. Mohler who know their arguments are foolish and flimsy.

Dr. Ehrman, man, I don't know if anybody saw him on the Colbert Report but he got blown away. (Granted I love Stephen T Colbert) He just got destroyed. His new book is about as useful as kindling too. Everything in has already been presented by others and thoroughly discreditted by biblical scholarship.

    Thanks for the thread. :)

Ehrman is very much using what he was taught in his background to try and dispute what scripture teaches. He uses what many older dispensationalists and fundamentalists taught at one time until they found out that it was not true. Yet it was taught as the truth for many years.

Sometimes I wonder what God thinks when He sees those He created making statements that question His wisdom the divine Inspiration. There is no inconsistency in Scripture, only our mortal, fallen state, lack of ability to discern. Jesus is God in every book of the Bible, as He has always been, and always will be. The Bible is a book of faith, not facts, figures, and history. It can only be partially understood in this life, and only then with the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is loaded with numerous facts so obvious that nobody could mistake them for anything else. While the focus may not be on just facts they are there though. The resurrection is a fact and proven by numerous witnesses. Those are facts. The genealogies are facts.

Faith in Jesus is not substantiated by ignorance and creative thinking and fabricating myths but facts. To think that Christianity is filled with myths is like saying Christianity and Mormonism are equal.

I have always maintained that the Bible is not a textbook on history or science, but where it speaks on history and science it is absolutely accurate.

It is an accurate account of God and His dealing with humankind.

Sometimes I think scholars are pressured to write a book each year and their over active imaginations take over. All reality goes out the window. This sometimes happens in the evangelical world too.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Lu 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God:

but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

Normally, I don't even response to these "Idiots",

if the Spirit can't educate them I certainly can't.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Sadly there are too few leaders such as Al Mohler in the Christian community.
