Does you support school vouchers?

The only problem is that the one who pays the piper names the tune. In several jurisdictions home school kids can audit public school classes and activities. In Washington State if a home school registers as such with the school district, the district gets half the per kid payment from the state.

 

My problem is this: with government money comes government control.

 

I favor the use of state vouchers for any school that is accredited by the proper state agency. The Federal Government has no business in education, that is the states purview.

I would love to see vouchers passed here in Alabama. If that happened, I think the Mobile County Public School System would be losing losing a lot of students. When I was working as a mall security officer in 2001, the mall management allowed proponents for a property tax increase to set up to distribute brochures for voting "yes". This tax was supposed to be put towards the public schools.

While I was patrolling, I stopped by that booth to talk with one of the people. I aksed her about vouchers & she quickly turned her nose up at it saying that there would be too many empty schools. That only goes to show that they know they would get a failing grade. I think that it gives the taxpayers power over the school board officials. Incidently, the tax vote in 2001 passed 55% to 45%. Today, the school system is still money hungry. Shortly after this tax was passed, the school board bought a new $7 million building for their headquarters. I think there should be more accountability before we throw more money at them to fix the problem that they started.

This is part of the reason why I have given consideration to running for Mobile County School Board. I don't have the fancy college degrees. I'm not addressed as "doctor" with a PHD in anything. I am a product of the Mobile County School System. I just want the school board to be more accountable & use more thought when they are spending the taxpayer's money. I definetely won't push for any tax increases.

I know I could run if I wanted to because a few years ago, there was a guy who at that time was 28 years old (about my age) who ran against one of the school board members & gave her a run for her money. He didn't win, but it was a close race. What stood out in my mind about that was he seemed like one of those unsophisticated types. He looked like your typical college-aged kid.
