The Books of the Bible

    I recently was given a copy of the International Bible Society's The Books of the Bible. It is a pretty impressive work that removes the chapter and verse from the various books (while keeping the books unique and separate) and then locates them in their appropriate genre and era.

    In other words, it doesn't follow the traditional format of the Bible. (note the list below)

    One other unique addition is that the text puts the book and passages in their appopriate literary format. If the text is a narrative the format of the text is in paragraph form. If the text is poetry it is in stanza format. Pretty interesting way to approach the text. There is just one column per page and no notes in the text.

    Finally, the translation used is the TNIV which makes for a more contemporarily worded group.

    Slight omission above: Hebrews, James, and Mark follow Matthew (before 1 Peter).

    I ordered my copy the day it hit the market and have not regretted it yet.

    What's the rationale for the order in the New Testament? Is that the order they believe the books were written in?
