We were traveling through Oklahoma last Sunday and stopped at a church off I40 called Silver Spring Baptist Church. They were very friendly and made us feel at home. One thing that impressed me was their efforts to get out of a rut of years of the same order of worship. The sermon was towards the first of the service with the invitation in the middle, and greeting each other was at the very end of the service, as two examples.

Do any of you ever change your order of worship? Do you think the same order of worship for years lends to those attending just going through the motions?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

I used to love to have ORDER OF WORSHIP. But now, it is tiresome. Why not change things around? Why get stuck in the rut of shallow expectation?

Might be funny if they had a gluttonous feast before the service instead of afterwards then watch how many people fell asleep. :)

No, but my church did let me preach first once, so I could leave and go and be with my wife who was giving birth to our son.

I think a change could be effective in directing our minds attention and heart's affection to God. If you church is like mine we know when to sit, stand and pray without looking at the bulletin. Sometimes the song service would be more joyful after the sermon.
