    CIA renditions began under Clinton:

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200512/s1539284.htm

The US Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) controversial "rendition" program was launched under US president Bill Clinton, a former US counter-terrorism agent has told a German newspaper.
Michael Scheuer, a 22-year veteran of the CIA who resigned from the agency in 2004, has told Die Zeit that the US administration had been looking in the mid-1990s for a way to combat the terrorist threat and circumvent the cumbersome US legal system.
"President Clinton, his national security adviser Sandy Berger and his terrorism adviser Richard Clark ordered the CIA in the autumn of 1995 to destroy Al Qaeda," Mr Scheuer said.
"We asked the president what we should do with the people we capture. Clinton said 'That's up to you'."
Mr Scheuer, who headed the CIA unit that tracked Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden from 1996 to 1999, says he developed and led the "renditions" program.
He says the program includes moving prisoners without due legal process to countries without strict human rights protections.
"In Cairo, people are not treated like they are in Milwaukee," he said.
"The Clinton administration asked us if we believed that the prisoners were being treated in accordance with local law.
"And we answered, 'yes, we're fairly sure'."
He says at the time the CIA did not arrest or imprison anyone itself.
"That was done by the local police or secret services," he said, adding the prisoners were never taken to US soil.
"President Clinton did not want that," he said.

Holder says he approved Clinton-era renditions

Under fire from Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder revealed that he had approved of rendition — essentially, legalized kidnapping — apparently more than once during his tenure as President Bill Clinton’s deputy attorney general.
Cautioning Holder that any potential investigation into the Bush administration’s torture program could result in Democrats being roped in, “Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Richard Shelby of Alabama pressed Holder on the CIA’s ‘rendition’ program that moved terrorism suspects from one country to another,” reported Domenico Montanaro with MSNBC.
“Didn’t that happen during the Clinton administration?
    “Yes, Holder said.
“‘How many did you approve?’ they asked.
“Holder said he’d check the record.”

What? It almost sounds as if the pro "EIT" crowd is finally willing to admit that we do use torture so long as it started with Clinton and not Bush. Strange but not unexpected.

I don't see any posts in this thread that admit that the US uses torture. But then I guess that depends on your definition of torture. To some anything that causes any degree of discomfort is torture.

Most of the enemies this nation has faced in the preceding century consider torture as causing extreme pain to the point of death. There is no US policy that permits treatment such as American POWs experienced as prisoners of the Japanese in WWII, the Chinese and North Koreans in that "Police Action"; or prisoners of the North Vietnamese in the Vietnam war. We do not permit the terrible things done by the Germans and Japanese to the civilians in their own countries and in the countries they conquered. How about the treatment of people by the peace loving muslims? These countries developed torture to a fine art, and are not reluctant to use it.

When weighed against these examples, water boarding as used during the war in Iraq is not torture.

It just seemed like the pro "EIT' crowd that I've come to know and love was trying say see Bush is a saint after all because Clinton did it first without coming out and saying it. Group think with an "r" accent. (shrug shoulders and ;))

Anyway it's not about waterboarding or not waterboarding or coddling terrorists and all that anymore.

We're all extremists now according to the lastest governmental studies (UN?). So, I just wondered if the "EIT" crowd here would still be arguing in they're favor when they were the ones being hauled off for some of the same.

    Will ya fellas?

No poncho! The point is how far does democrat justice or perhaps better said, how far does the democrat hatred of Bush extend; to the point where they eat their own? Or will they find another way to crucify the Bush administration personnel.

obama wants a third world country, will he get it?
