Isn't tenderheartedness a mandate we find in the Bible?

I have observed many here who seem to think themselves above others and speak in ways that in our church would merit discipline.

We are not very "strict" unless you're a complete incompetent liberal. We do not put up with the back-biting and gossipping. If it surfaces we rebuke openly.

We find in the Bible that open rebuke is better than secret love. Most churches would never practice this even though it's a scripture mandate because they are afraid of a war breaking out in the congregation.

We have found that sometimes words do get exchanged in a "church meeting" on issues such as these, but what we have almost always seen is the ones having problems get right with the others involved.

We are a church family, we don't put up with JUNK.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

I do not think church discipline has anything to do with strict, liberal, or rebuking openly. It has to do with the pattern in Matthew. It is a simple three step process. First, go to the person and confront him yourself. Second, if that does not work, take a friend, then and only then does one take it to the local church.

In each of those steps, you are right, it must be remembered, we are to be Christ-like in our interaction with the problem, and remember, the purpose in discipline is forgiveness and restoration, not finger pointing and condeming, especially being condemed by sinners.

Oh, I agree with you, but I was making the comparison to how we do things, and according to the Bible as you said, but why shouldn't it be more Christ-like here?

I'm totally aware of the Bible's process.

How is that? I asked for an answer and now the Bible is "a waste of cyber-space."

Isn't it ok to fellowship around the table of simple Bible doctrines and enjoy what the Spirit has done for us all?

What is it, nothing to ARGUE
    over?

Brother, you have started several threads that are nothing more than complaining about how, in your opinion, other members aren't being Christlike with their posts.

People have pointed out that you use the same kind of language in your posts, and yet... here's another post to complain about how OTHER Christians aren't being Christlike.

Frankly, it comes across as self-centered nitpicking.

    Nevertheless

    peace to you:praying:

In most cases God has put up with every person for many years.

The easiest way to confront a gossiper is to take the person and have them tell the person they are talking about. That will quickly end the gossip.

Let's see: sarcastic, large bold red letters!

Your words violate the passage of scripture you have used to chastise others on this board for being unChristlike.

Ephesians 4:32 "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

May I suggest you submit yourself to your church for discipline.

Consider yourself openly rebuked (in love:1_grouphug:)

    peace to you:praying:

Exactly why I posted this thread, to point out that one can address issues, yet remaining true to the point, and still remain tenderhearted and forgiving.

I forgive you for your contempt. I forgive you for being abusive. I also forgive you for what you say is "peace" and yet you examine others in a warlike manner.

Hard to do on the internet?

Thank you, brother, for such a truly kind response and without the contempt experienced from others.

    Nothing here sarcastic.

Sarcasm usually entitles the use of a statement or and indirect question coupled with excoriation, I asked you a direct question. I'll ask it again.

Is there nothing for the lust of the flesh to be fed upon in a fellowship type subject with no real satisfaction? For that flesh to feed upon one "always must" present a controversial topic so people might argue over it?

And tell us just what is wrong with Eph 4:32 IN LIGHT OF HOW YOU'VE USED IT AS A WEAPON?

This is a DEBATE forum - hard, intense, in-your-face confrontation like Paul did to Peter over a wide range of issues.

If one wants to whine about that, I'd appreciate them removing themselves and frequenting the FELLOWSHIP forums here on the BB. That is exactly what they are designed to do.

But THIS is a good topic. I personally dislike mealy-mouths who whine and cannot handle rebuke or criticism or open discussion on any sort of ussue.

Kind? Tenderhearted? You bet. BUT A SOLDIER WIELDING A SWORD TO "EARNESTLY CONTEND FOR THE FAITH" against those who want to replace Jesus' whip with a "stern glance", and His condemnation to hell with a "time out".

Yes, such grace in your response, I think.

Can't Christians debate, in your face, without using grace as licentiousness to "cuss" others with their stern glance and condemnation to a sort of "hell" as you've suggested?

With Christians hacking each other to bits over debates, which were, I thought, to increase each others wisdom as iron sharpens iron, why would anyone want to be a Christian?

My concept of the Bible is we are to be children of God's wisdom, speaking to one another is psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with melody in our hearts to edify one another, not to tear each other apart and stomp on the remains.

    Peace to you, Brother.

    Harold Garvey responded:

On the one hand, you present yourself as someone who remains tenderhearted and forgiving.

In the very next breath, you accuse me of "contempt", being "abusive", and "examine others in a warlike manner."

What did I do to deserve these accusations? I told you the truth.

You have started several threads that are nothing more than complaining about others on the board not posting in a Christlike manner. That is truth.

Others have pointed out that you use the same kind of language in your posts (including the post I am responding to). That is truth.

I gave you my opinion that you are behaving in a self-centered, nitpicking way. That is my opinion, but you have proven it to be the truth by your post in response.

I said nothing abusive. I said nothing in a "war-like manner".

If you want to discuss scripture, then post scripture and let's discuss it.

If you want to start your thread by attacking the way others are posting, which you did, then expect people to point out your hypocrisy.

    peace to you:praying:

    This is what you posted:
You used enlarged, bolded, red letters. This indicates anger and yelling. The very question is sarcastic and accusatory, characterizing me as someone who simply wants to argue rather than honestly debate a topic.

There is nothing tenderhearted or forgiving about that question.

It violates the passage of scripture you posted in your attempt to suggest everyone else isn't being Christlike with their posts, but somehow you are.
Look into yourself. You seem to think you have a God-given ability to judge the motivations and hearts of others.
    Nothing is wrong with scripture.

What is wrong is your inability to apply that passage to your own posts. You are blind to your own hypocrisy.

That is never a good characteristic for someone with the self-appointed job of getting splinters out of other Christians eyes.

    peace to you:praying:

exactly what I am talkin' 'bout.

When one isn't all copesthetic with the talking heads he is asked to leave.

It may just be that he doesn't like having his ideas challenged and expects everyone to submit to his thinking.

Wow - one is being gracious and trying to help - and he gets his hand bitten.

    Nice.

Harold - for your own good, please walk away from the debate forum. One more slightly-veiled syrupy response will get you a "time out". :(

Pardon me? I made no such comments, Dr. Bob, is it that "I" cannot debate the way some jump all over another in the name of Jesus and show the error of our ways?

    OK, let's debate "tenderheartedness".

Is it a licentiousness to say whatever one wants to anyone they feel "needs" rebuking and asks that person to leave? I think so. Care to debate it?

Maybe that I should consider some "hot gossip topic" and let's have at it?

I really think your remarks are unwarranted.

It is more a sneaking suspicion that some are complaining about my addressing this topic and have asked you to tell me that same thing they want.

My heart is true and pure on this subject and there is nothing "veiled". If you, or anyone thinks there is, please ask me to clarify and I will.

If my presence here just "bothers" some, well then "what's good for the goose is also good for the gander."

Gee, why can't Christrians just get along?

Can you explain how you have demonstrated that in your responses?
