Okay I have a conflict and I was wondering if anyone could help. Today I got told about a concert by a Country artist that grew up in the same town as my dad but the problem is that the concert is in a casino and I am torn as I do not agree with gambling away money that could be spent on family or anything but is just going to a concert that wrong if it is at a casino? I am torn in a way because its one of them "Can I pass a cookie Jar without getting in it?" type situations which i believe I can but I was wondering everyones thoughts.

Years ago, my pastor said he would never shop at a grocery store that sold beer.

Well, today, I doubt you can find a supermarket without booze.

Would this be considerd the same thing?

Do you buy gas for your car? Most likely it comes from the middle east and the profits go to Muslims.

I'm confused by this part - do you think you'll have the urge to gamble?

Why is it okay to spend money "that could be spent on family or anything" on tickets to a concert, but wrong to put to put it into a slot machine? Dude, go to the concert and play the slots if you want. Unless you have a gambling addiction there is no reason to skip the concert.

The problem is that I have been taught that gambling is a sin and since I would be in a casino being there might damage my witness. I guess I needed to explain and no I would only be there for the concert

Brother, you have to decide what you believe.

If you believe gambling is a sin and/or you believe going to the concert might damage your witness... then you already know the answer... you cannot go.

There will be other concerts. Better to live with a clear conscience.

    peace to you:praying:

Gambling is a tax on those who are bad at math

Its robbery in slow motion and the bandits aren't even pointing a gun at you!!!

As far as eating at the casino buffet bar goes??? There's just too many other eating establishments around that are casino free you can give your money to

As far as----you may say---"Well---thats where the company manager chose to have our annual meeting and he/she is unwilling to reconsider any other place!!! And if I don't go---I'll get fired!!"---------or in your case---"Well---that where Willie Nelson is singin'---(or whoever else)----its a lot more cheaper to go to Wally World and buy yourself a few CD's of the lastest hits

If you've just GOT to go------then leave your money at home---leave your cash---leave your checkbook---leave your credit cards at home or back at the hotel room-----remove the ability to yield to temtation----when the meeting is over---go straight back to the hotel---don't hang with the "buddies" if they're gonna go "risk it" after the meeting---thats what the devil wants you to do---he wants you to see how easy it is to be a winner----and its true---its easy to win---but thats not the danger---the danger is----its hard to quit---and the odds say---you won't be a winner long!!!!!

To me------theres just too many other options out there that to be anywhere around a casino

    Blackbird gives good advice.

To that I would add, "you bet!"

If one goes to Nevada he will quickly find that there are many paychecks coming from the casinos from which money is given to the church for its ministry.

You have to decide what is right for you. If its an issue that would cause you to stumble or get messed up...don't go near it.

Honestly I don't understand how gambling is a sin. I don't see it. Its like lots of other things that aren't sinful in themselves but when we allow them to take the place of God they become sin. Gambling isn't much different than the stock market or insurance imho.

....but if his belief is based on a false view, I would suggest going to Scripture instead of man in defining sin. Many times our conscience has been altered by man and not God. We are called to study to show ourselves approved...if he has done this (instead of just being "taught" gambling is a sin) and still comes to the same conclusion, I would second your advice.

Which is why I urged him to decide what it is that he believes.

    There are two issues.

    1. Is gambling a sin

    2. Will going to the Casino adversly effect his witness

    peace to you:praying:
