    Tincture of Lawlessness
    Obama's Overreaching Economic Policies

    By George F. Will
    Thursday, May 14, 2009

Anyone, said T.S. Eliot, could carve a goose, were it not for the bones. And anyone could govern as boldly as his whims decreed, were it not for the skeletal structure that keeps civil society civil -- the rule of law. The Obama administration is bold. It also is careless regarding constitutional values and is acquiring a tincture of lawlessness.

    SNIP

The Obama administration's agenda of maximizing dependency involves political favoritism cloaked in the raiment of "economic planning" and "social justice" that somehow produce results superior to what markets produce when freedom allows merit to manifest itself, and incompetence to fail. The administration's central activity -- the political allocation of wealth and opportunity -- is not merely susceptible to corruption, it is corruption.

George Will's recent columns have been quite critical of Obama's actions. I think he is showing clearly that Obama is acting unconstitutionally. There are two possible outcomes to this. One possibility is that some of the decisions, especially regarding what is being done with Chrysler and GM will be challenged in the courts and ruled unconstitutional. A second is that, if Obama's plans begin to fail and he becomes unpopular, he could face impeachment. I hope that the ultimate outcome is that there will be a move to decentralize power from Washington D.C. The central government's power has been growing since Lincoln held office. It grew exponentially under FDR and LBJ, but it's growth has been somewhat curbed in the last quarter-century. Under Obama, all restraints are being cast off. Will is pointing this out. Hopefully, his message will get through.

There were some who predicted this before the election. obama himself indicated as much if people would have listened to what he was saying.

There were a lot of indicators of future performance by the "0"; many of us (BUT NOT ENOUGH) noted such, but others just continued to follow the Pied Piper from Chicago - and still do!

Discernment is as rare as common sense these days.

George Will has always had great editorials and this one has got to be one of his very best.
