The Senate voted on Wednesday to yank money for closing the Guantanamo Bay detention camp from a war spending bill, delivering a setback to President Obama in his efforts to shutter the prison by the start of 2010.

By a vote of 90-6, the Senate approved an amendment that not only blocks supplemental funds from being used to close Guantanamo and move detainees to U.S. soil, but also orders that no funds already in U.S. coffers be redirected toward that purpose.

There is no need for court. They are POW's in what war has there ever been on going domestic court hearings for POW"S. In what war were they not held indefinitely?

No Rev, they are not POW's. If they were the Geneva Convention would apply to them but we as a nation have apparently adopted the idea that the GC are "quaint and outdated".

The Bush administration chose to label them "enemy combatants" instead of POW's in order to circumvent U.S. and international law remember?

POW's were held until the war ended not indefinitely. The "GWOT" is never ending. Which is great news for the military contractors selling arms and ammunition to both sides in a never ending "war". Besides all that the "GWOT" is a huge hoax and has been right from the start. But it does make a good cover story when invading and occupying other countries on behalf of the global public privateers.

"Enemy Combatants" doesn't legally change the need or legal ability to hold them indefinitely.

Whatever the case may be Rev I would think it would be terribly embarassing for both the democrats and republicans to have a light shown on what's been going on at Gitmo under both administrations.

But then maybe not. It does seem as if we Americans have given up on the idea of innocent until proven guilty and due process and moved right on to the guilty until the commander in chief says different mindset.

    Seige Hiel!

Closing Gitmo may not be in the best interest of those who wish to keep their dirty little secrets secret.

I doubt there is any credibility to that story. It is completely absurd

Fact check...they are not American citizens.

That kind of changes things, you know.

Terrorists--non-citizens--who want us all dead? Lock 'em up--not on our soil, but under our control--and forget where the key is.

You fact check. Do any of our founding documents claim that only citizens have God given rights?

You know for absolute sure everyone the government and media call terrorists are indeed terrorists who want us all dead how?

Have they been proven guilty beyond doubt?

Do you consider yourself to be a terrorist because you are anti abortion?

The government clearly considers you as one and soon the way things are going the media will too.

My point here is that it isn't up to the government and media to act as judge and jury. That's up to a court of law. Yet by your own words you seem to have given the government and media the power of judge and jury over anyone who disagrees with the "international community".

I disagree with the "international community" because I love my country and do not wish to see it treated like it has treated every country that doesn't obey it's coporate fascist edicts. Does that prove I'm a terrorist in your mind too, because I do not believe in international corporate fascism in any shape or form?

There is an arguement that I heard about. If they are sent to our prisons, They will end up forming a gang of their own like the Arayian Brotherhood, hispanics, or blacks. Me personally, I would ensure that they are separated & placed into an area where they are certain to be taken out by the other gangs.

I know that sounds brutal, but why should our prisons have to hold them.

At least someone in Washington did the right thing by blocking the funding.

I have read the GC OR. So did Bush's lawyers that's why they all agreed the best thing to do was to make a new classification for prisoners. So they themselves couldn't be tried as war criminals.

As far as the "GWOT" goes it's a sham. If it weren't our borders would have been closed Sept 12, 2001. And the Pentagon wouldn't have had to resort to the use of propagandists to get people like you all worked up over it or to make you think things were all going great when they weren't. Shucks they wouldn't have had to lie to us in the begining or make up poor quality forgeries to get us to consent to starting an elective war in Iraq that's left us broke and helped the "terrorists" recruit even more people into their ranks.

I imagine that if you read what the real policy planners were saying years ago instead of listening to all the neocon propaganda put out by the military media industrial complex you might have a grasp of what's going today too. Lucky for you, you have someone like me to set the record straight.

But beyond all that, Sarah Palin will never ever be POTUS. Sorry ole chum but that's just the way it is. Obama is the best man for the job and the job is to turn the USA into a corporate fascist state that can be merged with a one world government and use our military might and what's left of our hard earned treasure to do it. Sarah Palin's resume just didn't have what the global elite were looking for in a loyal puppet. I mean let's face it she just keep all their lies straight whereas Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton could.

That is what you're really upset about isn't it?

There is a very simple solution to Gitmo. Close it, put all the enemy combatants in a military cargo plane, land it in the middle of the Antarticia and let them out, then they can blow up penguins.

Legally, a POW must be a member of a militia of a declared foreign enemy. These terrorists cannot legally be called POWs.

It has long been argued that the Constitution does not enumerate its rights for foreign enemies. The 5th amendment even goes further. This is indeed interesting, but we must look at the evidence and form our opinions from such, and not from what we regurgitate from someone else.

I like that idea. I think they should move Gitmo to Antartica. This way you wouldn't Islamic jihadists living in a tropical paradise with three square meals a day. They would have to tough it out in the unforgiving cold.

If they moved them there, they could use another Enhanced Interrogation Technique, I call it thumping their ears. You stick them out in the cold weather for two minutes, bring them inside, & tie them to a chair & begin to thump their ear lobes until they talk. Thumping a person's ear would be less brutal than water boarding (if you consider waterboarding brutal).
