Late December 1990 in Atlanta, GA. It was about a week before Christmas but I don't know the date. I am pretty sure it was in the evening of a weekday. I was reading Matthew chapter 8 while sitting on my bed. I was a New Ager but at that point, God had gotten me to give astrology up a few weeks earlier.

If interested, my story is here (it's been published in several languages and is also in The Kingdom of the Occult by Walter Martin and Jill Rische Martin, and recounted in Chapter 10 of Thom Rainer's The Unexepected Journey):

Summer, 1947, in a morning service at North Jackson (Tennessee) Baptist Church. Age 9.

However, I do know some folks who cannot pinpoint a specific time, only that their hearts underwent a change in disposition to the Lord Jesus, toward sin, toward a desire to obey and serve him, toward fellowship and toward a thirst for the word of God.

It was in february of 1982.

For some reason I never bothered to note the date or day. I wish I would have, but I didnt.

Many christians, of different persuasions, had witnessed to me, planting seeds, over the course of about 2 1/2 years. In spite of the many different "persuasions" of these evangelical christians, God caused everything they said to blend together in a beautiful tapestry of truth.

Finally...I was worn down and tired of "kicking against the goads".

I remember exactly where I was as was I born of the Spirit, and I literally *felt* the instant of the Holy Spirit regenerating my spirit.

I was all by myself, laying in bed, about 2 or 3 AM. And after 2 1/2 years of Holy Spirit influence, I gave up. I just couldnt push Christ away any longer. Regarding behavior, etc...I repented of nothing, and promised God nothing. I was simply VERY much wanting Him to change me.

I simply placed my faith fully in Christ,(repenting of my disregarding and ignoring Him my whole life) and asked...actually pretty much begged...Christ to come into my life and change me.

    And He sure has!

Praise God! Praise God! Praise God! What a great GREAT difference He has made in my life.

No I don’t. I remember the time, and I remember the place. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was in the summer. It was in a restaurant in Raleigh.

I understand that many people take solace by remembering the date and time, but I heard a great example in a message recently about overemphasis of the date and time. It was something like this:

If you were a doctor and they brought you a patient who was unconscious the first thing you would do would be to look for signs of life. Is the patient breathing, do they have a heartbeat. You would not open their wallet and try to figure out the day they were born. How foolish would we be to say, “I know this person is alive because it says to right here that on Friday October 5th at 11 pm they were born?” Of course not we would say, “They have a pulse,” or “They are breathing.”

When someone comes to us with questions about their salvation, or we doubt the state of our own souls remembering the time and date that we trusted Christ is not the best assurance. Signs of life are.

Do you remember the date and time? That is great, but is Christ alive in your life? Do you feel the leading and convicting of the Holy Spirit? Is God using you to reach others? Do you feel his presence in your daily walk? Are your prayers returned unanswered? Do you demonstrate his love in your dealings with others? Oh I know we all backslide and we all have bad days, but if Christ is in your heart there should be some sign of life, some sign beyond the date your Sunday School teacher wrote in the back of your bible.

Thank you Sister Marcia. I've always been interested in your testimony and probably have a copy of one or more of your presentations. Problem with 80-Gig disks - lots of files. Anyway, it was good to reread. This June I'll celebrate my 25th anniversary on bulletin boards (bbs). I've talked about religions to lots of people.

Anyway, here is my short testimony.

I was born at a very young age on 25 Dec 1943 (I have a piece of paper, I actually don't remember it). I was born the second time in April 1952. I've been an active Baptist Christian Baptist person ever since. (That was 57 years ago, you know). I was there when I 'got saved', was 'born again', first 'trusted in the Lord' -- but it was Jesus did it all. There are so many word pictures of individual & eternal salvation --individual salvation must be important to the Lord -- in fact, individual salvation was so important to the Lord that He gave His life to insure even my individual salvation.

I have already become as one with the Cosmic All - it has lasted 57 years so far, it will last forever. But as a human, I can measure only part of forever - that part between 1952 and 2009. But my Bible assures me: I'm the Lord's forever: dead or alive.

Strangle but today's PC = Political Correctness, says that it is good if you are seeking the truth. But if one ever finds the truth (the Truth is a person named Jesus, AKA: Messiah Yeshua ben Yoseph, ben David, ben Abraham) according to PC they must be immediately dissed.

    My response?

I called out in abject repentance and faith about 9:30 pm, Sunday, March 17, 1957. The holy Spirit of God regenerated me and gave me that ability (I sure didn't have it on my own) to repent and believe, and "the light came on".

I fought it all evening, but when the lights went out in my bedroom and I realized I might go to hell, I did not want to close my eyes until I had turned to Christ.

So I date my time/place to "Sunday evening", since it was not a bang-bang occurance but took a couple hours.

This topic really bothers me because I think I was saved when I was around 10 years old. I can remember my SS teacher coming over and speaking with me and praying. But I don't remember actually saying anything specific or really any major change occuring in my life.

I was always involved in church and the youth group and I did attend a couple of summer camps that convicted me but still wasn't sure at this point.

Fast forward to when I joined the AF out of high school and I basically backslid for well over 10 years before I started to get convicted but still was not living for God. The convictions became stronger and I finally took care of it and even got re-baptized. I even wrote it on my Bible at the time about doubting God and that He was no liar and such and that I would always come back to what I wrote if I ever doubted again.

Unfortunately, I lost that Bible and now have a new one. So, I am not sure if I was truly saved at 10 or 20 plus years later. But I know I am saved.

No debate, so hope this "heart Baptist" can testify. I had been sought by the Lord (and seeking Him) for a couple of years. Finally the gospel clicked for me watching a televised Billy Graham crusade. Went to my room, fell on my knees in prayer, and was gloriously saved.

I was 17, and did not write down the date. However, the folks at Wheaton College helped me with what info I had and I just recently nailed down the date as May 29, 1967, somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30 pm. I now know it was the same week as my brother's wedding, so suppose I was too caught up in all the to do to take time and write down what I figured I could never forget. 17 sure can be dumb to be so smart!

I like to remember when the scales fell from my eyes for the first time. If it wasn't for the Lord I don't know what would have happen to me.......I might have been in jail or in Hell. We remember birthdays and I think its good to remember our second birth too. Born once you will die twice. Borne twice you will die once.....unless He suddenly appears.:jesus:
