    Bill, you'd better duck.

I have great admiration for anyone who pulls themselfs up as this man and woman have. Good for them.

Here is a link to the transcript from last nights "New Hour." James Copland has some reservations, other do not. One aspect of the New Hour that I like is they bring in people from both sides of an issue.

    Enjoy the reading.

I find it somewhat humorous that when the Democrats appoint someone like this that supports government programs like affirmative action, welfare, etc. that the story is always about how they pulled themselves up from the bottom to the heights of success through hard work.

Why not be consistent and bring out someone who attributes their success to government programs and an abortion or two?

WalMart door greeter from Middleville, NY knows a Latino woman from the Bronx.

See, just like Salty's headline except we don't have a local paper. Just Ed down at the local coffee shop/grocery store/brake and lube shop. Ed says he was talking to the door greeter down to WalMart and this door greeting feller....

(Just a side note right quick. The door-greeting feller lives next door to Ed but is not part of the "in crowd". The in crowd is at the coffee shop/grocery store/brake and lube shop from 7:30 until a little after 10 which is also when the postmistress has all the mail in the boxes. The door-greeting feller is at work during this time and is therefore an outsider which in these parts make him a credible news source)

Where was I? Yes, I remember now....

Ed says he was talking to the door greeter down to WalMart and this door greeting feller says he met a Latino woman from the Bronx. Now Judge Sotomayor is also a Latino woman from the Bronx. Now if we were inclined to self-promotion like my dear friend from the Salt City I would start a thread entitled UPSTATE WALMART GREETER ALMOST KNOWS SUPREME COURT NOMINEE.

Ed's brother Ted is in charge of the E-lectric light department and is responsible for our one and only traffic light. Our red is on top 'cause Ed says that Ted read the instructions before he put it up.

Yeah, doggone it. Those horrible programs like child labor laws. Like making it illegal to discriminate based on race or religion. Like the fact that for all its shortcomings, Social Security has done more than anything to give our elderly a decent standard of living in their declining years. The space program created jobs and technology breakthroughs. The Eisenhower Interstate Highway program connected the nation with minimum four lanes of limited access expressways. The TVA created power infrastructure and many more jobs. Yeah, that big, evil government sure is a problem.

You got it! We need to return to those prosperous days like the 1930's. All we need to do is elect another Hoover (thank God we finally removed another Hoover from office in 2008) to office and watch the standard of living soar!

    From the NP transcript:

    >GWEN IFILL: We're definitely going to get back to some of your objections. Of course, for the record, Justice Cardozo was of Portuguese descent, so there's some debate for some reason about whether that's actually Hispanic or not.

THIS is amusing! Just as (some say) Obama isn't black enough . . . surely "Portuguese" is much more "minor" than Hispanic.

Do you or do you not know to what I was actually referring, here?

BTW, if the answer is you don't know, you might have been a good candidate for the next opening, except that there is little likelihood of two consecutive New Yorkers in a row being nominated to the Supreme Court. ;)

Have the conservatives appointed someone with a similar background? It would be awkward to write the same about them if it isn't true. There are many more stories about her than just about how she pulled herself up but human interest stories appeal to the common man. It gives them hope that they too can rise above their current situation.

Yep, we've seen the effects of doing nothing and both times it lead to an economic disaster.

My point being that Democrats support the expansion of welfare, affirmative action and abortion.

They appoint candidates for various positions that also support those things.

But when they put those candidates on display they tout self reliance and pulling one's self up by one's boot straps.

Why don't Democrats put up a candidate that is a success due to the very things that Democrats promote?

It's a long way to Tipperary,
It's a long way to go.
It's a long way to Tipperary
To the sweetest girl I know!
    Goodbye Piccadilly,
    Farewell Leicester Square!
It's a long long way to Tipperary,
    But my heart's right there.

Very familiar with Tipperary Hill and Syracuse mostly because of the hospitals there. It's about an hour west of here and if folks need advanced medical care they go to Syracuse. If you want to find all the donut shops you hire Salty to drive you around. Just get in the cab and say, "Take me to your leader."
