Yes, it does seem this nomination puts the GOP in a tough position. Your thoughts?

If Latinos and Hispanics didn't vote for McCain and his amnesty for illegals what possible reason whould they have for voting for Republicans - just because they didn't block a Latino from the bench?

Republicans aren't going to get those votes no matter what.

Women don't tend to vote along gender lines - otherwise Hillary Clinton would have won.

If the Republicans can't win the African-American vote or the Hispanic vote or the female vote, do they really think that they can win a national election by only winning the middle-aged and older white male vote?

And speaking as a middle-aged white male, they have also lost me. They either get a bigger tent, or they become the 21st Century version of the Whig Party of the U.S.

It doesn't put them in a tough position if they focus on issues.

The problem is that there are too many short-sighted and unprincipled people who let people become the issue, rather than making issues the issue.

It's only tough if you want to play politics.

To win voters back, the GOP needs to stand for something. They didn't lose because they were too conservative. They lost because they were not conservative enough and they couldn't communicate the message.

They need to quit worrying about the size of the tent and worry about values and positions that hold the tent up.

It is no more delicate than the democrat opposition to Clarence Thomas, Roberto Gonzalez, or Miguel Estrada.

Democrats have given Republicans a pattern to follow.

    They won't follow it.

Why anyone would want a Supreme Court Justice who fully intends to spit on her oath of office is simply beyond me.

It is certainly no more a difficult situation than when the Democrats filibustered Miguel Estrada.

I opposed the way that Clarence Thomas was treated.

Why do you think the way he was treated justifies you to call for the same treatment of a fellow human being. Do you think that is what Jesus would do?

Politics is such a dirty business. Perhaps all of us Christians should remove ourselves from it. My experience has been that we end up being the ones soiled by being involved in politics. We don't elevate politics into something better.

With segregation of church and state, what could it matter what Jesus would do?

    Really?

What have Roberts, Thomas, Alito, or Scalia done that would break their oath of office?

Or is this just more mindless rhetoric on your part?

The democrats dumped on Latino Miguel Estrada, a true success story yet still got the Latino vote. Most Latinos [Cubans excluded] are just like the blacks and some on this Forum, they will blindly vote democrat no matter what the consequences. The did last November and we have a Fascist in the White House.
