Say, didja hear about enviro-activist Laurie David ? Y'know, the one who produced the AlGore "Inconvinient Truth " ? Seems she's in trouble for paving over Martha's Vineyard's wetlands to build a path to her tennis court. This is the second time. Along with her homes on both coasts, and her frequent ski trips to Aspen, a quick google of her name will reveal why I hate the celebrity-driven "save our planet" movement.

A comment on this article on the web site:

It sounds as though we have a case of "mistaken identity" here. Your headline and the early parts of your article leave the impression that Ms. David is not the environmental advocate she is reported to be. Fortunately, you revealed that it was Mr. Thorpe, her contractor who made a mistake, admitted it, and worked quickly to resolve the situation and mitigate any damage that was done. At that point it should have been case closed but thanks to a disgruntled neighbor, poison was deliberately spread into the intenet with the goal of soiling Ms. David's name.

Given the monumental contribution Laurie has made to take action aimed at protecting the environment for her family, neighbors, and global community it is a shame that there are people who think nothing of running a "gossip truck" over another person's reputation which is certainly as fragile as a Chilmark wetland. That neighbor needs to learn a lesson from Mr. Thorpe who set the record straight.

She appears to be yet another eco-hypocrite that the star-gazing left have a real hard time criticizing.

    From your first link:

New information has surfaced regarding Laurie David’s “Oops I Did It Again” wetlands violation at her Martha’s Vineyard manse. As we previously wrote, the environmental activist was cited again for violating the state Wetlands Protection Act while building a tennis court. Our theory that David probably wasn’t aware of the violation turned out to be correct — as the contractor in charge of the construction took the blame. “She’s obviously a very busy person and she trusted the contractor,” said David’s contractor Bart Thorpe told the Martha’s Vineyard Gazette. “And I inadvertently made a mistake. It’s something she had no knowledge of and had nothing to do with, and it’s a minor thing.”

Her contractor took the blame? Well, he is being paid by her so what the heck. Taking the blame is not the same as being at blame.

Her contractor did something that she had no knowlege of? There wasn't a contract? He installed a paved path for no charge?

Something doesn't sound right with this explanation.

    From the article:

It sounds like it was a temporary path to get machinery back and forth from the tennis court site.

I can believe that she was unaware what the contractor was doing. It doesn't excuse her however. If she is such an avid environmentalist, she should have made sure to discuss with her contractor the do's and don'ts of the project. Any environmental impact should have been discussed and dealt with.

From my perspective, however, I couldn't care less if they build twenty-two paths to the tennis court :).

I don't begrudge her her wealth, or tennis courts, or her path to & from...I begrudge her hypocrisy....
