On Sunday evening, May 31, I felt pressure above the eyes, in the neck, and a little short of breathe. I took my Blood Pressure (BP) and it was only 228/128so I quietly asked my wife to take me to our ER.

Once there, the BP was confirmed, and within an hour I was in ICU with a hypertensive crisis. They considered my condition "critical" and what was supposed to take 12 hours [getting my BP under control], wound up taking 36 hours. But that wasn't all.....the catheter that was placed in me upon admittance was leaking blood, and my bladder was not passing urine.

On the following Monday evening my Urologist was called to insert another catheter, and it took him three more attempts, due to the prostate being so large and the blockage so severe. He ended up inserting a special catheter that would allow for Continuance Bladder Irrigation. A metal rod, something the size of a clothes hanger, was placed inside this extra large catheter, and my doctor threaded the instrument into my body, down and through the blockage, setting forth a flow of body fluids that amounted to more than a liter and a half of urine being immeditely released.

This wasn't the end of that crisis, and the start of another. For more than 12 hours my bladder continued to bleed quite heavily, and I ended up needing 2 units of blood once it settled down.

In the end, after 5 separate X-rays, two ultra sounds, and at least 17 blood draws, it was determined on the following Friday, that I did not have a heart attack; my lungs were fine; my kidneys were NO longer failing; and all of this was caused by a large prostate that blocked the normal flow of urine.

I was released from the hospital on 6/8, and while I will be carrying a catheter until surgery, there is no place like home.

I am scheduled for "Green-light Laser surgery" on June 29th, and I covet your prayers for the complete success of this procedure, with no complications. I also covet your prayers for the complete and natural recovery of my bladder to keep me from having to use catheters for the rest of my life.

I need to share with all my brothers.....the prostate can block your normal flow of urine, and in doing so, it can push natural bladder waste back to the kidneys, setting off temporary kidney failure and and an extreme rise in blood pressure. This event could kill you if you let it go to long.

I let it go too long because my primary care doctor thought it was kidney failure and the natural result of peripheral neuropathy. He should have hospitalized me three days before I went to ER on my own. The truth is, his misdiagnosis could have killed me, but BY THE GRACE OF GOD, I am still alive, and able to work on my next two books. More importantly, I remain capable, and able to love and care for the love of my life: Shelly. Now I am confident we can make it another 21 years in order to celebrate our
    50th wedding anniversary.

GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE, AND HE IS TRULY, BETTER THAN WHAT WE OFTEN GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR!!!

Thanks for your earlier prayers in regard to my kidney problems.....God has completely restored the kidneys to the level they were at before they headed south!

Shalom, and never forget that God is all Knowing, and supernatural, and this means there is nothing He can't do if we have the faith, and the supportive prayers of at least one other person.:1_grouphug:

Oh my stars! Paul - I'm SO glad you're still with us! Praise God for the care that you DID end up getting. I'll be praying for a good procedure/surgery and a full healing.

    Thank You

You are so correct, and I too, am glad to still be here. There were two nights I thought for sure I was going "Home!" Early Monday morning, because they couldn't get my BP stablized. I resolved that I was heading home, and was at peace because I felt so sick.

Than early Tuesday morning, I thought I was going to bleed out, and was once again at peace with going home.

It was a blessing that HE chose to let me live.

Thank you for your prayers, as I need them more than ever before!

    Thanks

I know that all of our experiences, when it comes to God's touch, are doors waiting to be opened by others, and I know that my healing touch will be a doorway through which some one else will go through with high praise and thanksgiving.

God is still on the Throne, and healing two very sick kidneys, is nothing less than a miracle that reminds all of us just how great a God we serve.
