Of course the world has stopped to mourn the death of the king of pop. There is NOTHING else on the news!

Why are we (as a society so obsessed with this man??????)

I have been hearing some the dumbest statements today during this coverage. I thought I would start a thread to share.

    1. "He was an entity in himself."
(what???? what in the world does that mean??)

    2. "More tonight on the SHOCKING death of Michael Jackson."
(doesn't everybody die? what is so shocking about a man who had drug problems, emotional problems, ect....for many years dying? Why do we get so shocked when celebrities die? Are they immune?)

    3. "Michael Jackson was like my famous older brother. I just cried all day when I learned he had died."

    People! Get a life!

I heard on the local news that Farrah's death (the "angel") was symbolic, and this angel escorted Michael Jackson to Heaven. What unabashed, nonsensical, ignorant things some people say. And they call Christians "loony"...

"The death of Michael Jackson has stolen the spotlight from the problems in Iran".

Well, duh! Who cares about what's going on in the middle east anyway. :BangHead:

It's a sad commentary on our world when a pedophile's death gets front page coverage- I don't care how "talented" he is.

He meant nothing to me, and I don't mourn his death or even care. I do care about some celebrities that die when they are some of my favorites. However, I didn't like this guy's music or the fact that he molested children.

He also held his own son over the balcony of a hotel. What if he had slipped and dropped him? Would it have been written off as an "accident"?

I'm sure we will read a lot about what a "wonderful" and "saintly" man he was. Some people in the near future will be saying that the man came to them in a dream, or that he healed them of an incurable illness. People will be naming their babies after him in the hope that his talent will be imparted to them.

I never cease to be amazed at how people worship the ground on which a celebrity walks, but they curse the man Christ Jesus. They talk about what a wonderful influence a celebrity is or was, and how so many children want to be just like them. What a crying shame! Children are taught to curse the name of the only One who can save their souls, while they're allowed to worship drug addicts and drunks. Celebrities are held up as great examples of how to live, while morality is thrown out the window and called "old fashioned."

The ONLY One I worship and want to be like is my Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus. All others pale considerably compared to Him.

I know you've all heard of that special cavity in your "being" that nothing else can fill -- well what you're seeing is the attempt by many to fill that hole with something other than that specially designed "filling"!

So many will try the Farahs, or the Michaels, or anything/anybody else except the real thing!

To accept the real thing would mean that "I am no longer the captain of my soul!", and that will never do!!!!!!

You're too kind, Mexdeaf. Jackson made lots of noise, but I never considered any of it "music" or "talent."

While I'm sad that hell gained another soul, I too, am sick of the stupid flowery comments being said about his passing. He was sick mentally, spiritually, and probably physically. He is not a hero anymore than whats-her-name the blond pinup girl the media gushed about for months after her overdose. Anna Niccole Smith, I believe the name was.

The chief American idolatries are the worship of wealth and the worship of celebrities. Not far behind is the worship of teams and various entities. So we can be sure it's coming... since Jackson is an immortal object of worship who can't die, many people will refuse to believe he has; it's all some trick to get him out of the nerve-shredding spotlight and he can live in peace from all the millions he has accumulated. We might have experienced this before ??

==I must say a big amen to that. The man was seriously sick. Yet now we are suppose to remember him as this wonderful person and performer (etc). No thanks. I will remember Michael Jackson as a freak, a pedophile, and a tragic example of how fame and money can ruin a person's life. As for his "talent", give me a break! Jackson's last hit album/single was over ten years ago. Jackson's massive fame was primarily due to the fact that he started his solo career around the time of MTV's birth. If he had released Thriller today, he would have been laughed off the stage.

Jackson's death distracted America's attention from the real issues at hand—the unprecedented power grab of the liberal left. This legislation is doom to the American economy. It will destroy industry, put millions more out of work, and fuel costs will sky rocket.

Change has begun, toward America's Third World status.

Thanks for all the great posts guys. I am glad to know that I am not the only one that is appalled and disgusted by the veneration of this man by our messed up society.

I think the news stations do go to excess with many stories of celebrities. Michael Jackson did redefine pop music for a period of time, and will be remembered for that. Yet, he became a parody of himself, and had a number of odd twists in his life that only added to his mystique. I find the man's personal life rather odd, and if the pedophilia charges were true, abhorrent. But I did like his music, and the contributions to pop music are undeniable, starting with The Jackson 5 and through his solo career.

The entire family seems to be ruined by celebrity, e.g. the appearance at the SuperBowl in Houston by Janet Jackson's nipple. The parents are largely at fault, IMO.

I actually liked most of his music. Whether or not anyone likes it or not, is not the issue. That is the way with any music. But the overkill by the news channels just shows that Americans are overly fascinated by celebrity.

All that said, I am sorry that he died. My sympathy goes out to his family.

Actually, I'm not sure that most of us American's are really that enthralled by celebrity. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think the news media uses celebrity events as a diversion to keep our attention from more important matters.

As someone stated earlier, we are at war. We have major problems with our economy. We have more pressing matters that need our attention--like the cap and trade bill, hatecrimes bills, etc. I wonder sometimes if the media blitz is simply a cover to allow the politicians less scrutiny.

I'm upset by death. Any death. MJ is no exception. Death puts an end to the soul's choice. However, I believe that God gives everyone a chance for salvation and because of that belief, I know that there was always hope for MJ---or Farrah---or Ed Mcmahon. There is always that hope that they turned to Christ. To say without reservation that any of those lifted up their eyes in hell would be wrong. We simply do not know that.

All that said, I'm ready for regular news.
