That title is somewhat misleading. Actually it was my journey to thinness because of my own vanity.

    But I digress...

After the birth of our 4th child, I was 220lbs (I'm 5'8"). After dealing with depression, I looked myself in the mirror and decided to do something about it.

I went on a modified atkins and lost 50lbs. Then when I plateaud (sp?) for quite a while, I went sugar-free vegetarian. I lost more weight, got pregnant, gained a healthy amount of weight, delivered baby #5 and the rest of the weight came off. In the end, I weighed 145.

Then I went back to America. Though I still was sugar-free, I went up to 170. Getting back to the mission field, I lost 20lbs without even trying. The food is just that much healthier.

I stayed at 150 for a while. I felt good at 150. Then when we bought our house and started working on it in the summer heat, I rediscovered ice cream. That was 2 years ago and in that 2 years, I put on a little over 20lbs.

Knowing I couldn't keep this yo-yo going, I decided to just eat more balanced (as in low sugar, lean proteins, high fiber) and become more active. That has been THE best decision! I feel good. I'm not very hungry. I'm dealing with less depression. In the last 7 weeks I've lost 8lbs. I still have an occasional ice cream or Coke and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. I feel really good!

Anyone else want to share your story?

Good for you! I know where you're coming from because I commited to an exercise routine back on March 1st and made diet adjustments a few weeks later because of finding out my cholesterol levels were not so good.

I didn't have that much weight to lose, but have lost 12 lbs while re-sculpting my body at 51 years of age and also feel really good about it. I also eat more now than I could get away with before...just to keep the weight on and energy going.

We are in Eastern Europe. At home we eat a mix of American style foods (mostly vegetarian) and regional items. We eat a lot more bread here than we did in the States. Here, if you have no bread you have nothing. LOL! I make our desserts because we don't like the ones here (they make a perfectly good cake and then pour a sugary syrup over it----making soggy cake). We eat a LOT of fruits and vegetables. We have tons of fruit trees and a large garden on our property. We also eat goat dairy products.

Serve up meals on a bread and butter plate rather than a regular dinner plate.....the smaller portion does not look so weeny, I eat most of an entree size meal when out but not all.

Do not drink with a meal....it washes it through the system...

I have always been a VERY fast eater, your brain takes some time to receive messages from your stomach. Put your fork down between bites and talk to family members or in my case (I llive alone, say a prayer).

To be more slender eat smaller portions of food. Easier said than done I know

    Complete Lifestyle Change

I always thought we ate healthy. I mean we stayed away from cokes and candybars and we tried to fix well balanced meals, at least for one meal anyway.

Then my sister (after years of health problems) was diagnosed with celiac. Several other people we knew have also been diagnosed and friends of friends. Cancers on the rise and out of control and other strange illnesses and diseases showing up everywhere.

My sister and I began to do some research which led to more and more findings. Anyway the short of the long is we are completely disgusted with and distrusting of Agri-business and the FDA, USDA, and any other agency that is more concerned with big business than with protecting the people. OK, off the soap-box and on to what we have done.

My wife and I now bake our own bread from organic whole wheat berries that I grind with a mill. We no longer purchase any products with High Fructose Corn Syrup or Soy Lecithin. We no longer purchase any package and preserved meats. I butcher my own animals or we buy from a local butcher. We have eliminated as much as possible and foods containing the big 4 genetically modified products (Corn, Soy, Cottonseed, & Canola). And of course we have greatly increased our intake of fresh fruits and vegetables (several from our own garden). We are learning to can and preserve our own foods that we grow.

The noticeable differences include weight loss, more energy, increased mental focus, increased physical stamina, nutritionally dense foods fill you up faster with less intake, and satisfaction of thumbing our noses at corporate agriculture which cares only about profit margin and not about the quality of the food or health of the consumer.:tongue3:
