Please give a biblical definition of murder. Do not include any laws developed by any country.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Thanks, mate. I have that also. I just wanted some people to identify murder biblically, ignoring local or state laws. Some use a biblical definition until it no longer suits their purposes. That is what I was getting at. The ignorant use of the term murder.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Abortion is also murder because it is a deliberate ending of another human life. It does not have to be illegal to be immoral

Deliberate ending of one's life. Well, why do people carry a gun? Seems to me that they intend to kill someone which makes it biblical murder!

    Cheers,

    Jim

My layman's definition is "the killing of someone without justification"

So I could carry a weapon, shoot someone without commititng murder - ie self-defense.

In addition, no more force should be used than necessary. For example, if someone shot at me, and I shoot back and hit him in the hand; and drops his weapon - I no longer have the right to kill him as long as the threat has ended. If I did, then it could be considerd murder.

Salty, I appreciate what you are saying, but, you are applyiing laws of to-day and not the biblical rule, Thou shalt do no murder.

My end point will be that we have a biblical rule and then we have man-made laws of a country. When the biblical rule is too tough in modern society we bend to accept human laws.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Wouldn't we have to say that the definition is broader than that? Jesus made the old testament definition of sin more stringent when He said:

Mat 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

His emphasis was on loving our neighbor and even our enemy. Anything which violates that is guilty of the act itself.

If someone breaks into my home and points a gun at my family and I shoot that person that person in self defense then I have committed murder? My how we like to twist the scripture.

How do you interpret Jesus' statement in the Sermon on the Mount?

I take it that you are a pacifist. I for one will kill an intruder in my home (I will shoot first and ask questions later) and still fulfill turning the other cheek. Of course, if you are a pacifist I wouldn't expect you to understand no matter how hard I tried. By the way, Go Auburn!!!

Scripturally, an act of murder requires malice aforethought and premeditation.

Deut. 19:11-12. But if any man hate his neighbour (malice aforethought), and lie in wait for him (premeditation), and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die . . . deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

One who carries a gun to defend either his own or another's life or property from the evil intentions of a malefactor is loving, not hating, his neighbor.

If abortion is the question, it is quite clear that God considered an unborn child in any stage of development (fruit) a human life for which justice must be administered:

Ex. 21:22-23 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life . . .

The implications from this passage are sweeping and broad. Not the least of which is this; the unintentional loss of life as a result of the commission of a crime is to judged in the same way as a murder.

    Cain murdered Abel.

    David did not murder Goliath.

    Biblical enough ?

abortion was widespread in the first 400 years, including biblical times, and yet nothing is said about abortion by any of the NT writers. Seems odd to me!

Peter was severely chastised for his use of the sword, by the Lord.

    Cheers,

    Jim

This thread is an end run around the forums rules about justifying abortion and needs to be closed.

Out of one side of your mouth you yell "murderer." Out of the other you won't call the killing of a baby in his or her mother's womb murder. That speaks volumes as to the fallacy of your position.

Wow...someone on a Christian thread, trying to justify abortion.

    What a horrible, unBiblical thing.

Yet in another passage he told his disciples to buy swords.

And, are you saying God may be OK WITH THE KILLING OF THE UNBORN ?
