Silent Prayer vs. Audible Prayer

If you fear Satan you better watch out....God is jealous and will not be pleased. Scripture says resist the devil and he will flee....I would say praying out loud would fall into that:wavey:

Second -Satan doesn't need to hear your prayers to know what it is you might be praying about. Demons are everywhere keeping tabs and know what is currently pressing in on you via their own manipulation (at times) or due to, most likely, to our own selfish desires or worldly pulls. However praying doesn't give demons nor satan any advantage concerning us since God answers in His time, His way, and according to His plan - Not ours.

Therefore it doesn't matter what you pray about, the unholy host already knows what is transpiring in your life and what most likely your prayers will be about. What they don't know is what God is going to do next with and in your life. They are watching out, more for what God is going to do, than what you are going to pray about.

Besides, If you are worried about it, just ask God to remove any spirit not of God to be removed.?

I know who I am in Christ and when me and my father get together, I have no cares about who else is there. My Father isn't taken off guard nor is He surprised and what our enemy might do, think, or surmise. That is why He could care less what they hear - He is in control not them. :thumbs:

 

Silent prayers do not have to be out of fear but simply good judgment. the motivation is the problem not the action.

 

Blessed lady, I would ask where the scriptural support is for this practice? Is it scriptural or is it just paranoia? If it's just paranoia I would say, "For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

 

Reminds me of a story I heard some years ago: It seems that this young fellow couldn't read or write and he got a letter from his girl friend. Then he got to figuring how was he going to know what she wrote if someone was to read it to him but he didn't won't them to hear what she had to say, So he thinks and hee-hawed over the problem, then he comes up with the solution. He takes the letter to his pa and says to him, "Pa I got a letter form mary today but I need you to read it to me, but I won't you to put some cotton in your ears and you can read it to me but you won't hear what she has to say." Well, I wouldn't worry to much about Satan, The LORD can take care of that matter, so Pray out loud.

 

I don't know. The Apostle Paul said: Pray without ceasing. [1 Thessalonians 5:17].

So if you pray audibly all the time people might wonder about you. Personally I pray silently for the simple reason that I pray frequently, sometimes only a sentence or two. I don't worry about Satan or his demonic followers since I am indwelt by the Holy Spirit. I do worry some about his human disciples. I believe it is these human instruments of Satan that the Apostle Paul warns about in the following Scripture.

Ephesians 6:10-18
10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Yes I agree, but that is different than praying silently because you don't want satan to hear you and get an advantage over you.

Kinda hard for Paul to be refering to 'humans' when he specifically states that we wrestle not against flesh and blood (humans) but against.. and the list is specifically of spiritual things or better demons. We understand this as spiritual not in it what he is referencing and also since he states not against flesh and blood, but also because of what follows with respect to the armor of God, which is spiritual as well brother.

Maybe I missed what you were saying. Can you rephrase it?

 

This is comon among charasmatic or pentecostal people. I've heard these type of things against praying out loud because the "devil" will hear it and attack you. I believe in the devil but I think an over interest in him is unhealthy. I've heard pentecostal ministers say they don't want people touching their kids in a hand shake because demons can transfer from one person to the next by simple trust. I think this type of thinking can lead to mental health issues. The simple facts are these with regard to the devil. As noted in Job before he can do anything he must get permision from God. Note only a third of angels fell with him which means 2 thirds are with God. So there are more than enough angels to protect us from him. God is soverign and his will is the one that counts. I generally pray silently but its not out of fear of the devil it because thats how I consentrate. I pray out loud for two reasons. 1) to remember scripture verses 2) and to encourage others I'm praying with. Praying out loud also is a declaration of my faith. Thats just how I see it.

 

The mind is always active, even when it seems idle. One reason for praying aloud is to maintain our thoughts. Sometimes when praying in our mind, it tends to wander and even our prayer thoughts get scrambled.

There are other times when silence is all we can do. We come into the presence of God in prayer speechless. This is a good time for us to listen to God. There are times when we are so busy talking to God and then rush away from prayer before God speaks. To pray without ceasing is more an attitude than an actual prayer. It is hard to be critical of others when in a continual attitude of prayer.

I sometimes walk in the woods near my home and enter into prayer. My eyes are open as I walk, lest I bang into a tree, and I experience prayer most fervently at these times. Sometimes it is silent prayer. Some of my better sermons developed there.

I don't believe there is any rule about whether prayer is aloud or silent, even in public prayer, which often becomes more of a sermon than a prayer. Publicly we ar leading a people as we converse with God. Sometimes the public prayer is a statement of praise and thanksgiving to God. Sometimes even a public prayer can be silent as we invite the people to pray for a person who is ill or suffering some calamity. "Let us pray for peace...." silence, allowing each person to offer their silent prayer.....

The important thing is that we pray.

What an interesting thing to bring up! I've thought the same thing before.

I figure that those unseen among us have been around for thousands of years and have a pretty good handle on human nature. Therefore, even the fallen angels must be amazingly adept at figuring out people's fears and weaknesses.

I do sometimes keep certain prayer silent, usually ones that deal with personal emotions/thoughts I am going through. My reason for that is this: I have enough problems without worrying about an unsaved person being led to prey on my darkest thoughts when I'm already at my lowest.

I do NOT believe God will send good angels to block every single attack. In fact, I'm quite sure of it as it hasn't happened yet, and I've been a believer for a number of years now! So when I'm at my worst, I silently share those thoughts, even though they are already known to God. Mostly because he asks us to pray. It's a way of release, and often I find myself praising God the majority of times I meant to go talk about myself. LOL Kinda just happens when you get yourself close to the Father!

Anyhoo...those are just my own personal thoughts. I have faith in God, but I also have faith that Satan and his angels will use every opportunity they get to shake that faith. I try not to provide the fuel.

 

Our Faith must be in God, not satan because God has power over Satan. So don't worry about Satan when you pray; God has victory over Satan. raying:
