To all of the Democratic and Republican apologists on this board, a great book to read is "Common Sense" by Glenn Beck, patterned after Thomas Paine. This is especially a good read for those of you who think there is a difference between the two.

The two major themes of the book are that our rights come from our Creator, and they include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Any power the government has is lent to them by the people. We do not get our God given rights from the government.

The other theme is a call to action to get rid of the two parties, realize how far down the road they have taken us from the Constitution, and what we the people need to do to get this country governed by the Constitution again.

Have the book and it's excellent. You might also want to mention that the book also contains Thomas Paine's original "Common Sense".

I hate to admit it, but I was one of the ones who bought into the whole "Republicans good, Democrats bad" mentality.

It wasn't until about 2005 that I realized that the Republicans have completely abandoned the principles that made them great and that now, the Republicans and Democrats are just two sides of the same coin.

    I'm now an independent.

I don't want to align myself with one party, but I did vote for Chuck Baldwin.

If the Republican Party had stuck to the principles outlined in 1994 by Newt Gingrich then we would not be having the problems we are having now.

I still believe there is a great difference between the republican and democrat parties. The liberal democrats politicians are tearing this country apart. That has been their goal for many years. They are basically of the same mindset as communists. In a former time these people were politely called fellow travelers. Unfortunately they are being supported by many of the populace including some RINO's!

I don't think it can happen without a shooting revolution for these reasons:

    1. The young people seldom vote and the old people alway vote.

    2. The old people control the money.

    3. Old people including myself feel that we had paid our dues and are entitled to the promises made to us regarding retirement that were made to us during our 40 or 50 years of working and paying taxes.

    4. Most people may prefer the Rs or Ds but know they will do OK under either party. The devil we know is preferred to the devil we don't know.

    5. The US is still the best place in the world for the working class. (Generally) A person who can't do OK in THIS decade of the US would be a loser any time, any place. A person who is a loser in the US now would be a loser under any system.

Seeing as how I haven't read this book and I don't view Glenn Beck as a straight arrow to begin with I have two questions.

    1. Is Beck calling for an organized movemnet of some sort?

    2. Why not just read Paine's "common sense" and save yourself some hard earned fiat currency?

"Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom." Thomas Paine

Newt was all talk OR. His contract with America and all of that was just talk. Whose house do you think produced the legislation that Clinton signed which is getting him blamed for the housing market crash? Clinton didn't write the legislation, he just signed it into law.

You bought into it OR. You've been hoodwinked. Both parties sell government. One to the corporations and the other to the unions and blue collar workers. They have the same destination just a different route. One says let's tax corporations (take from the rich) and give to the poor. The other says lets reform welfare (take from the poor) and cut taxes for corporations (give to the rich).

Now I will give the Democrats some credit, they make no disguise for running up the deficit where as the GOP call themselves "fiscally responsible" and run up the deficit. Don't believe me, you do know our current budget was made by Bush? You do know that, right? You know Bush bought Fannie, Freddy, GM and the banks don't you?

Both parties are the same, they have backers which drive their ultimate agenda. All that money that was made by off shoring out jobs didn't just evaporate and it wasn't just the corporate exec's that got the money. You beat politicians made out good for passing the legislation that made it all possible. Like was said, they are clearly opposite sides of the same coin.

    1. Organized, not really. He is calling on people to exercise our rights to take us back to a government like the Constitution says. Both parties are equally to blame. The numbers are there to do it, but it would take a inspriational figure to bring all those who do not vote, independents, and those sick of the two parties together. It is time the government served the people and stopped robbing from its citizens.

    2. I have read common sense, and the book was lent to me. I spent nothing.

Which is why a lot of folks rail so hard against reforming our health care insurance system.

I voted for Baldwin too, the last election. My first time ever voting for third party. I was more of the mindset "Democrats evil, Republicans less bad" but I have seen over the last few years that most Republican politicians have abandoned whatever true conservative ideals the party might have had and just go along with the status quo. Many (in both parties) just want to be a lifetime poltician, be as insulated as possible from the "real world" that most of us live in and say whatever will get them re-elected.

You're quoting from the Declaration of Independence, a great document which supports freedom for all but NOT THE BIBLE. Where in the Bible do you find support for this statement?

Where in the Bible do you find the right to own a car? We were founded in our Christian-Judeo ideals in relation to moral code and laws. If you read the document, does not the Bible talk about how precious life is, in reference to we are endowed by our Creator with certain rights, among them life? Does not the Bible talk about liberty in the Lord? So, if you want to look at the character of God, as you read the Scripture, since you seem to be unable to accept "pursuit of happiness" what do you think God wants, us to lead a life in the pursuit of misery?

It is a constant pattern in your posts to mix apples and oranges when it comes to civil government and being a Chrisitian.

If it is your desire to find a nation based on Bible verses alone, then you should research all the nations of the world and see what you come up with. If you want a theocracy, planes leave for Iran and Saudi Arabia every day.

Well ...... well .... I consider Glenn Beck a half-way interesting entertainer, but not a serious political thinker.

The idea of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" comes from the French Enlightenment philosophers, not the Bible.

On the second paragraph, how many parties would, in your opinion, make a good government?

How many parties? It does not matter as long as the two existing ones are gone. Parties that have different ideas about how to govern within the Constitution are ok as long as they are there to serve the American people and not rob them.

I consider Glen Beck a very clear thinker on the subject, much more so than those who think there is a difference between the two parties. Democratic apologists are nothing more than part of the present status quo.

What is it with demanding the Declaration of Independence come word for word out of the Bible? If you do not think we were endowed by our Creator with life, just what do you think. Just how do you think about God if he would be against us pursuing happiness in His will of course, lead lives of misery, gloom, and defeated?

OK, now you can go back to arguing with your Republican look alikes.

I asked where in the Bible does it say God gave us these rights? You seem to habve the problem of mixing US government and religion. I didn't claim this YOU DID.
