I have been watching some of the hearings for Judge Sotomayor at her confirmation hearing.

I have noticed that the Dems are throwing softball pitches, while the Republicans I saw were throwing hardballs.

I also noticed that Sotomayor "walked around" many answers she gave.

Has anyone else watched the hearings?

Overall, I would give her a C+. She probally will be confirmed, but ...

Your thoughts

All she has to do is not have a serious screw up and she's in.

She knows it and will skate, or just outright lie about her intentions, on all the serious Republican concerns.

The GOP senators are just grandstanding for their shrinking base.

If the conservative/Republican base is shrinking... why don't the Democrats just come out and say directly what their real agenda is?

Why try to pretend for the public that they are not as liberal as they really are?

Why is Sotomayor now backing away from what she has been saying for years?

If the Republican base is shrinking, its beacuse the Conserveratives have had enough. And too many so-called Republicans are nothing more than RINO'S - think Gen Colin Powell

The conservative base is quite in tact. They are just moving to be independent. But conservative they still are no doubt.

Liberals are liars. They can't get elected, or confirmed for an appointment, any other way.

Yes, praise God for unfettered abortion, gay marriage, and turning biblical preachers into hate-crime perpetrators.

Since they complain constantly about both the republicans (RINO) and the democrats, the conservatives should start their own party, or perhaps they could join the Constitution Party.

Really I have only watched a few minutes of this circus they call a confirmation hearing. It is the same thing everytime. A bunch of grandstanding by politicians. These hearings are just a chance for them to ramble on and try to sound like they know what they are talking about. It makes me sick.

As for Judge Sotomayor, of course she is going to "walked around". There are two reasons for this:

1. She can. Most of the politicians questioning her are not scholars so it should not be too hard for her to talk over their heads.

2. She must. If she wishes to be confirmed she must avoid any sticky situations and the best way to do that is avoid direct answers.

As you can tell, I am just a tad bit bitter about things in D.C. right now. The past sixteen years have been really tough on this nation. We have had three very poor presidents in a row. We desperately need another Lincoln, Reagan, or Washington. Instead all we got were Clinton, Bush, and Obama. Talk about dragging the bottom of the barrell. It is depressing. Let's pray we can do better in 2012.

I have to get my drivers license renewed this week. I'm strongly considering changing from Republican to Independent. In fact I would say there is a very good chance I will.

In my opinion the Republican Party no longer stands for anything. Eight years of President Bush (R) gave us nothing but larger government, an unnecessary war in Iraq, a unnecessarily dragged out war in Afghanistan, nation building, grand deficits, and finally President Barack Obama. It was no accident that President Bush's first choice for Secretary of State was Colin Powell. Maybe President Bush is a nice guy, maybe Powell is a nice guy, but neither are conservative.

Since you dont have much of a choice to choose from in political parties ...

Why not start the Conservtive Party of DC?

Lincoln was not perfect, but he was better than the Presidents we have had recently.

In this area we have three choices: Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Thats all.

Evidently you did not check the link

There are actually 5 parties in DC:
D.C. POLITICAL PARTIES:
Communist Party of D.C.
D.C. Democratic Party
Libertarian Party of D.C.
D.C. Republican Party
D.C. Statehood-Green Party

But my question is "Why not start the Conservtive Party of DC?"

I do not know if you watched or listened to the hearings for Alito and Roberts ... but it was simply the same in reverse. On important issues neither would say what they believed.

Also both claimed that precedence was very important in their decisions. However during their time on the SC they have been very activist judges and seemingly precedence means nothing to them. Were they lying under oath to Congress? They would say no. Their decisions certainly appear to tell another story.
