depends on which phase of study:

    a. if it's the get-the-gist-of-it phase, it's probably the MSG/CEV.
    b. if it's the wonder-what's-the-underlying-word-for-that or gimme-the-tense phase, it's prob the NKJV or NASB or, better, an Interlinear.
    c. if it's the how-might-Robert Carr-have-said-it phase, it'll most likely be the KJB.
    d. it it's the what-most-Christians-today-might-see-in-their-Bibles phase, it'll be the NIV.
    e. if it's the let's-see-how-a-Jesuit-conspirator-might-say-it phase, there's always the Jerusalem Bible/NAB.
    it so depends.

You have admitted to 5 different directions that depend upon your reasonings, yet one course of study has been proven adequate for many years.

be not many masters but use simplicty

My regular Bible that I study and use all the time is the ESV but I will also use the NASB.

I voted NASB but it was a toss up between that and the ESV. I use them both pretty much interchangeably.

We use the NIV for sunday morning at church so I use that some too but we use the ESV in the evenings so I have started using the ESV more.

We have been watching a video series lately for sunday school and most of the speakers use the NAS on that, though I have noticed that MacArthur seems to be using the original NAS not the 1995 update.

Our pastor uses it for the most part, but I really like the way it flows. The NKJV I use is put together in actual paragraphs which helps it flow better to the eye, but it is still pretty stiff in delivery. The ESV reads and sounds more like the spoken word which lets me beter digest it head-on.

I still use several other translations when studying, but want to start using the ESV as my reading bible (once I can afford to buy one).

I thought you would recognize a potshot when you saw one, mate. That was the poll's standing at that particular time.

Yes, I knew it was a pot shot but it made about as much sense and two second graders fighting on the playground.

Have been and will continue to be KJB. I am sure my lifetime is inadequate to fully study, meditate and draw out all lessons in this version and I have no time to spend on any other.
