In a nationally televised prime time press conference tonight, President Barack Obama falsely claimed there are 47 million Americans without health insurance.

This inflated claim of the number of uninsured Americans was even higher than the false claim of 46 million uninsured Americans that the president’s Council of Economic Advisers made last month.

47 Million Americans without Health Insurance Census Report
    29 Aug 2007
    http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/80897.php

A report by the US Census Bureau this week shows that household income is up, the poverty rate is slightly down for the first time this decade, but the number of people without health insurance went up by 0.5 per cent to reach 47 million in 2006.

The Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2006 report draws on information collected in two surveys: the 2007 Current Population Survey (CPS) Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC).

There has been a strong reaction to the report, with the presidential elections coming up next year, the New York Times describes it as a "presidential candidate's gold mine", with the main focus being on the fact that 47 million Americans still have no health insurance and the proportion of children with no health insurance has risen, with the poorest children the most likely to be uninsured.

This has boosted calls by many candidates to bring more people into the government scheme. Recently the government based schemes have received wide support in Congress even though President Bush has promised to veto any legislation that expands them.

Alatide, you need to get up to speed.

You are using census numbers from 2006.

The OP is using census numbers from 2007.

You also gloss over the fact that both numbers include:

People wealthy enough to pay for their own insurance but choose not to

    Illegal aliens

Legal aliens visiting for a short time who are going home soon

The poor who qualify for existing government health care programs but haven't signed up

Here's the data straight from the census bureau. It shows a total of 45.7M for 2007 but the percentage has now gone up to 16% in 2009 from 15.3% in 2007 so the total now is about 47.8M. Your article actually quotes this data and lies about it.

Thanks for the link. Here is more:

Note, not all were without insurance at any one time.

    It's not my article.

And you are still ignoring the fact that most of the "uninsured are:

People wealthy enough to pay for their own insurance but choose not to

    Illegal aliens

Legal aliens visiting for a short time who are going home soon

The poor who qualify for existing government health care programs but haven't signed up

No suprise here. He lies about many things.

Until someone calls him on it in a public forum, he will continue to lie about the numbers.

I've shown that it is not Obama but you and the Rev are the liars. How can you argue with the facts? You haven't posted any so I guess youi choose to live in your fantasy world rather than recognize reality.

Don't come here with facts, what up with you? No one wants to hear the facts, we prefer the GOP twist. Everybody has insurance, everybody is happy with the insurance they have and no one fears cost will increase in the future.

We be happy with the status quo... Read the rules before posting.

Where is your proof this is what the uninsured numbers consist of? Alatide quoted the census bureau, do you have anything credible for proof?

I thank you for confirming Obama to be the liar he is, with your "proof".

Critical thinking is a weakness of yours. Critical reading is a foreign concept to any Obama acolyte.

You must be living under a rock or something.

Perhaps you have been on vacation on the moon.

Which of those categories are you questioning?

That illegal aliens probably don't have health insurance? But we know that they are included in the census numbers.

That some working people without insurance could afford to buy insurance but elect not to?

That some of the uninsured poor could sign up for an existing government program?

Get back with me on this when you have decided to engage the critical thinking part of your mind.

Here you go again. All opinion and no cited facts. How about some facts to back you opinion.

Prove your opinions. You only cite what you believe, but you have no facts to back them up. Again, prove your opinion.

I am curious, have you ever in your life written a research paper? What style manual did you have to use?

Are you like seven years old?

And your response is off topic to boot.

    I'll start over.

    47 million uninsured?
    45.7 million uninsured?
    47.8 million uninsured?

Who cares what the raw numbers are?

    They are meaningless.

Without the details as to why they have no insurance you cannot use the number in any meaningful way.

And you certainly cannot use the numbers as a justification for completely overhauling our national health care system.

When you can provide me with a number that you can say does not include...

people wealthy enough to pay for their own insurance but choose not to,

    illegal aliens,

legal aliens visiting for a short time who are going home soon,

the poor who qualify for existing government health care programs but haven't signed up,

or people who are simply temporarily between jobs and don't want to pay for COBRA...

then and only then will we have a basis for discussion.

Until then it matters less than the cost of a BLT sandwich on Mars.

Obama and his acolytes can't seem to understand the difference between "people" used by the census bureau and "American" used by Obama.

The difference makes Obama a liar.
