    Now this is scary.

And before you pull "the sky is falling" junk, be aware that every bit of this is factual, documented, and current.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/08/gop-senator-white-house-encroaching-on-first-amendment.html

So now, Obama wants US citizens to report "fishy" claims or rumors regarding healthcare to him.

Think with me: Joe citizen gets reported by Frank citizen for "spreading rumors" about some of the Obaminations happening.

Now...Joe is known as a "troublemaker." Since it's become obvious that Obama cannot control members of his administration (Napalitano's report on "right-wing extremists" and dangerous veterans, anyone?), how long before he is audited...or questioned...or "dirt" is dug up on him. (Hey, both parties dig up dirt on candidates now...how much of a leap is it to private citizens?

    I'm going to be blunt:

If you ever had a problem with the far-reaching implications of the Patriot Act, and don't have a problem with this, you are intellectually dishonest.

If you ever had a problem with J. Edgar Hoover's tactics, or McCarthy's tactics, and don't have a problem with this, you are intellectually dishonest, and your opinion's credibility is nil.

Since when did we decide it was OK to "tell on" other citizens for "fishy rumors?"

What a corrupt, paranoid, freedom-hating bunch of people we elected.

Just as many of us have feared and posted comments on, the O is moving to deprive citizens of their fundamental rights, granted by God, and guaranteed by the Constitution. This man is the most dangerous president this country has ever elected. He may be the most dangerous threat the nation has faced, regardless of who it may have been. If this direction is not changed, we will soon be vassals of the state.

Sorry guys, going to hav to report this one:smilewinkgrin:

Really, wanted to say AMEN. Now, anyone got an extra tea bag? My astro-turf is drying out...

The most unreal part is that it is so unreal...where's Samuel Adams? Paul Revere? We need another series of Common Sense; but sadly the Woodstock generation has overtaken us, the liberal agenda has been brainwashing our youth for at least 2 decades. Most are of the like opinion as Saddam Hussein, namely that America is the devil. They don't even know that historically Americans have bled and died not only for their own freedom but to protect the freedoms of other peoples and nations.

I say HAIL to the mythical melting pot, hey, step away from that boiling pot brother, your about to get scorched.

Anyone figure out the author of the above quotes?

bro. Dallas with another fishy post worthy of report.

Seriously, I recently downloaded and sent a copy of the Health Reform Bill to several friends and family urging their help in reading and summarizing the 1,017 pgs. for Congress, I thought about sending that to the white house email link myself. I mean somebody has to read the thing, how else will they know how to enforce it? Isn't a law made to be enforced? Oh, I just don't know anymore, does the Supreme Court both make and enforce our Laws? Where does that responsibility lay? I can't remember anymore, it is all clouded by my attempts to reason from the national Standard we commonly call our Constitution...:BangHead:

Is there a Cliff Notes Version of either the Constitution or the Health Reform Bill for Congress and the Senate?

You should drop by the other thread on this in the politics forum, and read the letter John Cornyn sent the zero.

I don't know, but they don't have the 2 days and 2 lawyers to explain it to them if it were made available in Cliff Notes.

That is all I think, I don't expect to always have to reach agreement on everything, nor that I am always right on everything, however, I would expect a career politician to honestly recognize he, or she, DOES in fact have time to read any and all BILLS that come before them.

If this is too much to ask, then I am certain that 30 to 40 yrs. in Congress has served to dumb them down to a point that they are no longer able to serve their constituents.

I am certain of that fact. What if our doctors told us they did not have time to read our test results, or our xrays, but that they must engage a particular course of action to medicate us immediately and then afterward refer to the results...good or bad.

What our public educators? How long would Congress permit those who are dedicated to their jobs act in a similar fashion and declare they do not have time to present their curriculum to their students because they have not had the time, nor the lawyers necessary to read and understand their subject material?

Sorry guys, I think it is time to cleanse Congress. A career politician is the single most detrimental thing on our economy and we really economically and politically cannot sustain them. We need true public servants...anyone having to raise millions of dollars to win a public office is no public servant.

I heard this yesterday and, to be honest, it frightened me. What are they doing with this information? Better yet, what Constitutional Right does the Federal Government have collecting such information? This is wrong. All Americans should be furious.

There is a minute (read slight) difference in opposing proposed legislation and contemplating terroristic acts.

One of these is inherently wrong, the other is...well a fundamental right.

I have nothing to fear by my name being sent into a list, but what I fear is not what my intent is in opposing the legislation, it is the intent of the government collecting information on anyone who opposes such legislation. At the very least and hypothetically speaking, what will happen? If and when this Bill becomes law will those who opposed it be denied health care?

Since when was it wrong for Nixon to request the FBI to 'watch' John Lennon, but the request to report 'fishy' opposition is not?

Besides, most people I have seen who oppose this do so on the grounds that our Congress is simply collectively too lazy to read and understand the Bill.

Second to that fact is the simple truth that we are NOT a national commune. Despite the government benefitted from our thinking they can magically solve all our problems, there is no benefit in that thinking for America nor Americans.

I am laid off, I am receiving benefits monthly worth a value of about 3/4 of what I was earning weekly. Now, yesterday Obama spoke in Elkhart, Co. Ind. concerning the fact of the Recovery Act providing a tax break to working Americans. That tax break equalled a savings on my income tax check when I was working of a whole $13.00 weekly. Now, another part of that recovery act provides for extended benefits added to the regular UE benefits. These equal $25.00 dollars weekly. This and the regular UE benefits then are subject to a 10% income tax; so for someone receiving the full benefit of $415.00 wkly + $25.00 wkly = $440.00 wkly. or $880.00 every two weeks, which is how it is disbursed; then take 10% off that, which is $88.00, divide that by 2, which gives you $44.00, subtract the tax break of $13.00 and you see you are paying back that in the form of $33.00 for the benefit of an xtra $13.00 per wk. on your take home...and this when you are working.

Then, in my case, this is the first time I have drawn UE; so take my earnings and the amount of base pay I have, which is only $10,000, but held a quarterly avg. of $19,000, and after receiving only 2 1/2 chks. that base of $10,000 is down to 8,000, then you can see how quickly that $33.00 dollars is repaid. So, you might ask if the avg. quarterly balance was $19,000 in my case when working why am I eligible for drawing from a base of $10,000 instead of the 19, well, that is because the UE benefits only go back to a specific time (quarter) anything beyond that is lost and not part of my UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE. Where is it? Lost in the shuffle of cash for clunkers and like purposed socialistic bailouts in an effort to stabilize an impossble welfare state.

NOW, why in the world would I want any institutionalization of my health care to be even considered by the same governmental thinkers who devised the above reality and I haven't even mentioned the fact that my UE benefit ck. has never been able to be delivered as scheduled because of the overwhelming of the system by so many displaced unemployeed workers, whose insurance is not there and whose current chks. are late, or misrouted, or delayed by computer technical difficulties...ad nausem...yeah, let's have these guys oversee my health care for me...great idea:thumbsup:

MP, straight answer here: Does this particular action by the Obama administration concern you? A yes or no is fine.

In this case we aren't, but are suspected of doing something wrong veiled under the phrase "fishy" along with an accusation of a "mob mentality" when we attempt to voice a grievance.

To me these oblique accusations seems to indicate there is something "fishy" about this administration.

A yes or no will not suffice, as the way you have teed this issue up is fallacious. From the White House web site:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected].
So, let's examine this for a minute. Where does it say, or even imply, that this is a Stasi-like, "turn in your neighbor to the big bad government"? What i see is a legitimate tactic in the Internet age of flagging rumor and inuendo so that the issues raised may be addressed. This could be some chain email that takes on a life of its own (e.g. the Madelyn Murray O'Hair is taking religious broadcasting off the air email/letter). It could be a web site that is incorrect (ala WingNut Daily). It could be anything. It could even be MSNBC. But what i do not see is where you are being asked to report specific individuals. This is an effort to take a pulse on the misinformation being propogated so it can be countered. What it doesn't appear to be is a way to target individuals for government prosecution.

Bottom line, no, I will not lose one wink of sleep over this. I am more concerned with legacy domestic spying begun by the last President's administration.

Let me add...If I saw something akin to what you are reading into this being started, I would be against it, and quite strongly. However, I see this as your being a bit paranoid about this President, and a bit ill informed.

Can you imagine if the GW WH had posted this? Your response would be quite different, wouldn't it, MP? Mine would be the same, and that this behavior in itself is quite "fishy" coming from an administration.

When I first read your post, I was going to report back with your "being inconsistent."

I re-read it, though, and concede that I believe you're being sincere with this.

However, I think you're missing the step of (what I think to be) logic that takes us to the level that worries me.

On the surface, this could be about just quelling rumors. However, given that this is a "chicago machine" kind of administration, and that there are political hacks abounding...I think it's natural that before long (if not immedately) this will turn into either some kind of enemies list, or we will see a McCarthyistic attack on people. Obama has too many political hitmen in his administration...and we've seen him do it in some of his earlier elections.
