    Dear Fellow BB Members:

I am stepping down as a Mod. To some, this will be a relief, no doubt. :tongue3:

Saturday evening, I picked up some bad trojan horses (unfixable, I was told by a couple of computer techs) on my work computer. These viruses literally took over my computer and installed themselves on my hard drive. My computer is unusable now, it destroyed my programs, etc. and was picked up by me being on the Internet. My computer is trashed!!! (I think I know which site & I think legitimate sites are being hacked by evildoers who are installing these on unsuspecting victims, but that's another thread..)

Bottom line: I am not going to be able to use my work computer (am getting another computer) to access the Internet anymore, this trouble has affected my livelihood and my employer doesn't want me on the Internet any more on the work computer because sensitive information could be compromised when something like this happens. So I will have to get a lap top for emails and Internet access and keep that separate from my work computer. Don't know when that will be.

Am sorry this has happened and angry this happened. I really feel violated. I have picked up viruses a couple of times before but was able to take care of them. These trojan horses overrode my anti-virus & spyware programs and are really bad ones. One tech guy told us he has seen 7 or 8 of these in the past week. The one that got me is called Advanced Virus Remover and even though there are instructions on the Internet how to remove it, those instructions don't work. Sorry to be so lengthy on this, but wanted to let ya'll know what is happening lately in Cyberspace.

I am logged in to a friend's computer to post this. Right now, I am computerless.

BEWARE WHEN YOU ARE SURFING THE WEB. BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT RESEARCHING PARTICULAR TOPICS - IMHO, THERE IS A CYBER WAR GOING ON. If someone wanted to silence my voice on the Internet, they have succeeded.

Thanks for allowing me to serve as a Mod all of these years. I have enjoyed it at times, been frustrated at times, but was always glad to serve here all these years and am thankful for the friends made here at the BB. Maybe I should say thanks for putting up with me, lol.

God Bless Each and Every One of You!

Toss your hard drive and replace it . . . unless you want an excuse for a new computer.

I think I came across the same thing. I did a Google search on something, and when I clicked one of the results, it went to a very different URL, and it told me my Windows install had virus issues. Popups started trying to install something to "fix" it, but I kept killing it. The funny thing is, I knew it was bogus, as I am not running Windows at all! Thank goodness for Linux! Cannot be infected by a Windows virus.

LE another solution besides wiping or replacing the hard drive would be to install Linux and see what happens, even just as a test.

    Just my opinion.

I have been using linux for years and have tried many different distributions. One of the best I have ever seen is Linux Mint, it is Ubuntu/Debian based, and its goal is to be as simple as possible to install and run. All my personal computers are running Linux Mint and we are in the process of moving all the church computers over to this OS.

I'm looking forward to your return to the forums.

I've always enjoyed the threads you've started.... full of information or pithy with substance to think about.

Sorry about your computer. Hope your boss is understanding through this ordeal, which it sounds like you both shared. Unfortunately 'bugs' do hit and without warning.... I've lost a cpu due to one which couldn't be repaired. I've no doubt but what some links may be targeted as a way of censoring information and frustrating folks.... particularly truth seekers.

May God provide you with a speedy recovery ...... as I count you as among 'the watchmen on the wall' which we all badly need!

Let me second this motion (as I am my local church Moderator, so I don't get to do this often) that we need you back, for the yeoman watchman duty you perform.

Take a short break if necessary, LadyEagle, to get the problem fixed, but please don't totally resign from the post. We (or at least I) look forward to seeing your soon return with a fixed computer.

However, you are fully correct that there are plenty of malevolent 'bugs' out there which are solely designed to give many problems on the Internet. It is most likely impossible to avoid all exposure, unfortunately. I once got into a 'hacked site' with a 'trojan' on a farm machinery manufacturer, of all things. :tear:

Sorry to hear this happened LE. We differ on ideology but I love all of God's children and you are certainly one.

My wifes computer which is in our office recently got a bad virus that is making it unusable. Keeps popping up this windows anti virus subscription screen.

I don't know why people would destroy another property. I guess that's why we keep praying for the lost.

We'll miss you as Mod. You can put up with this tough crowd which says a lot about you.

Wow, I'm really sorry about your computer troubles and that you're going to stop being a moderator. There are some nasty trojans out there. I aquired one about three years ago that required the hard drive to be wiped clean and everything reinstalled.
