Obama has been doing many town halls without his teleprompter to include this one. I saw that live and they cut him off in the middle of his point but I was expecting it to be worse than that.

I will also admit he didn't answer her question which is something I thought when I first saw it. However, it seems politicians make a art our of not answering questions.

I like her question because it leads to a complex point. Do we as a nation want to put a pacemaker in a 100 YO woman? Obama's grandmother was dying of cancer and she fell and broke her hip, the insurer would not replace her hip because she was in the final stages of cancer.

The womans mother was lucky that Medicaid will pay for the pacemaker as long as the doctor says it's needed (I am assuming she had Medicaid). Private insurance like Obama's grandmother had are more profit driven and would probably not pay for the pacemaker. They would as Obama said, "give her glycerin pills" and something for the pain.

I got the impression that Obama doesn't care that much for the elderly..... and thinks that as people age they loose their worth. My dad's 87y/o.... just a couple years back got a knee replacement. He still bushhogs around the margins of the farm to keep down fire risk and keep it clean and accessible.... and planted a half acer garden this year. My mom, in her 80's just got a knee replacement and they are now traveling by car to visit family in other areas of the country.. ...... Comments made by Obama seem to say 'science' supports these replacements as unnecessary ......given the life expectancy. Well....... duh....... you remove people's dentition so they can't eat the healthy mix of foods..... or you fail to repair their problems with mobility..... and you increase the likelihood of an earlier death due to falls, stroke, heartattack. (I can understand a different approach with a person with advanced alzehimers.... or terminal cancer with metastisis.) I don't like the idea that the government has the veto vote on what a doctor might recommend.... and because it also pays his salary..... doctors would have a incentive to comply and not make waves.

Regarding his grandmother..... he went to visit her just before her death..... but did they ever have a funeral or a memorial? I tried to follow his campaign.... but it seemed to me like it continue full steam ahead after hearing of her death.

Perhaps his grandmother broke her hip when he threw her under the bus!

That is a heartless accusation to make against any person but to hear it come from a Christian is just a shame.

He went for a memorial with his family after the election. He did keep campaigning after her death but his visit was to say good bye. I'm sure she understood.

My Old Man was almost dead of cancer throughout his body and I think his doctors continued to cut on him BECAUSE his medical was paid 100% by his AT&T pension. He died a month or so after they cut off his testicles because they claimed it would reduce his pain.

These days, there is no excuse for anyone with terminal cancer to have great pain. A friend died in pain in a VA hospital. They refused to give him sufficient pain killers because he might become addicted. He died in less than a month. Does it matter if a person over 70 becomes addicted to . . . anything?

Those were great times when companies provided excellent retirement medical benefits. Unfortunately they are gone. AT&T stopped offering that kind of retirement medical to any management employees hired after 2000. Now all they provide is a small add-on to Medicare. lose Medicare (government supported insurance) and you don't have any coverage.

That is a good description of our current health care system with the for-profit insurance companies cutting care and refusing to pay for surgery for the elderly. That's exactly what needs to change.

So it is your belief that seniors are currently denied medical care by their insurance company but Obama's plan will give them the medical care that they are currently being denied?

Obama has been saying that too large of a portion of health care is currently going to the elderly in the last years of their lives and that is where he is going to reap much of his savings - "by not having that surgery but taking a pain pill instead".

You really do have this backwords.
