Glenn Beck looses advertisers

I don't understand how a company like State Farm Insurance can "accidentally" advertise on a television show. Saying that is much worse in my mind than simply saying that they thought advertising on a hate mongering program show would increase their sales but they were wrong. I think I'll take my business elsewhere.

This "Color of Change" group-----------sounds like a resurrection of Hitler's Brown Shirts!!!!!!! Instead of roughin' a person up in the bathroom---they convince adverstisers that Beck is a hate mongrel!!

 

It's simple enough. State Farm and companies like them don't contract directly with broadcasters for time slots to run their commercials. They generally contract with a media management company that arranges contracts to air their commercials for them. A media management company looks and demographics for different progams airing in different markets and attempt to place the ads in the markets that should be most beneficial to their customer.

And who watches commercials? Commercials are for potty breaks, refrigerator runs, and channel surfing.

I'd be surprised if they didn't at least tell their media management group what kind of programs they want their commercials to run on. As an extreme example, wouldn't a Christian bookstore want to be certain their ads don't run during an R rated movie?

 

Glenn Beck doesn't need people advertising for his TV program. He's employed by Fox News. I don't think that they're going to fire him or make his show move to a new time slot (live at 3:00 AM) over this. I think if anything, maybe he deserves a medal. While I don't entirely agree with his political philosophy (he's a Libertarian), I do agree with a lot of what he says. He makes a lot of good points on his program.

 

Well, Geico just lost my account... That would be around $1200 a yr... I switched to another account... Geico knows why.

This is one of the things that I've never understood.
When a man says,"That man over there will not hire me because he is a racist, so I'll sue him and make him hire me.", why would that man want to work for the racist and make the racist money?
Same thing with someone that one does not agree with, "That man on the radio/T.V. is hateful, ignorant, a racist, etc., so I will spend my time trying to get him off the air."
Why not just change the channel?
As far as sponsers go, they should know that if they are going to advertise on something like Fox News that the programs there will be more conservative, just as if they advertise on Air America it will be more liberal.
Free enterprise works people. If you think it doesn't, show me someone, liberal or conservative, who doesn't use toilet paper. (OK, I mean the majority of people. I'm sure there are people who use tree bark, grass, moss or whatever....but come on.)None of the two aforementioned have any problem with bears selling it, or the old Mr. Whipple 'squeezing it', or with kids stuffing it into their shirts for padding because its soft.

Funny, I am considering switching to Geico. Any company smart enough to distance themselves from the likes of Beck deserves my support! :thumbs:

The companies in question have just as much right to spend their advertising dollars as they wish as any of us have right to spend our dollars as we wish.
