Proponents of gun rights can talk until they are blue in the face about their need to have semi-automatic weapons for hunting like this guy says but I will never believe them. Has anyone here found the need to use one of these "drug war" weapons to shoot a deer or a rabbit?

 

Preferred weapon in various situations
Rabbit: 20 ga. single shot.
Deer: bolt action .270
Grizzly or Black bear: semi-auto 7mm
Javelina or Feral Hog: semi-auto .223
Dove & Quail: pump action or semi-auto 12 ga.
Enemy combatants on my property: semi-auto .223
Enemy combatants in my home: pump action 12 ga Tactical 00 Buck
Enemy combatants coming across my neighbors pasture: .308 or .270 bolt action

So it depends on the season, the game, and the situation.

By the way, what is drug war weapon?

 

When a person cites Amendment II to warrant ownership of guns for hunting purposes, they lose credibility. Amendment II doesn't address ownership of weapons for hunting. It addresses the keeping the bearing of arms in accordance with a well-regulated militia. They frequently cite the part about keeping arms, but they frequently dismiss the part about being regulated.

How many semi-automatic weapons can you identify by name that are used for hunting in this country? Can you tell me the decade in which the first semi-automatic hunting rifle was manufactured? How about the first semi auto shotgun?

That's my point. If they aren't used for hunting why are they needed? These weapons are primarily used for crime.

 

No you're missing my point. Semi-Automatic firearms have been used for hunting in this country since the first decade of the 20th Century. Semi-Auto Hunting Rifles were made by both Winchester and Remington. The Semi-Auto Shotgun was designed by John Browning in 1898 and first mass produced in 1902 and was manufactured by a number of different manufacturers for 100 years. There are literally millions of semi-automatic shotguns and rifles in this country. I personally own two semi-automatic firearms - one a shotgun and the other a .22 rifle.

When you use the term semi-automatic firearm you need to specify what you are talking about. A semi-automatic firearm fires one round per trigger pull until the magazine is empty or until the shooter decides not to pull the trigger.

They have been used by millions of Americans for over 100 years for hunting.

Your remark that they are primarily used for crime is erroneous.

 

I have often used a Remington 30.06 semi-automatic rifle to deer hunt with. It's nice to have multiple shots available especially when the deer is on the run. I have also used a Browning 20 guage semi-automatic shot gun. It's nice to have multiple shots available when bird hunting. I also have a Marlin 22 semi-auto that I used to hunt tree rats (the kind that eat acorns) with. It's also nice to have multiple shots when I'm popping rabbits that are nibbling down my bean sprouts in the garden. I have nine millimeter semi-auto pistol in my bed side stand. I've never had to use it (thank God) but if I have to I want to have multiple shots available to place into chest area of the man or woman who has broken into my home.

Funny how a man from Alabama (what would one expect from a liberal), my home state too, doesn't understand that almost every home in the sticks and many in the city limits of Alabama have more than one semi-automatic rifle or pistol. And, non have been used for crimes unless you consider shooting Bambi, doves, etc., a crime (BTW, it is not) Nor is it crime to keep a semi-auto equalizer readily available to repel, wound, or kill criminals who break into one's castle. (Only liberals think that the police will be there to protect them.)

Anti-hunters and environmentalists cry all the time about the pain the animals that are hunted endure. If a well-placed shot does not knock down a large animal with the first shot, what in the world is wrong with having the ability to quickly shoot a follow up shot with out taking your eyes off of the target?

 

And of course, the reason they stopped letting us buy WWII and other war surplus guns with a bayonet is to stop all the drive-by bayonetings that we read about in the news.

 

And I STILL want to know what a 'Drug War' weapon is. Is there an aisle I've been missing in the guns shows? Like the aisle where the automatic weapons that are sold there make their way to Mexico?:tongue3:

You do not have a clue as to what you are talking about. You have zero understanding of the Constitution or have far away the federal government has taken this country from that standard. Everyone of your posts show how blinded you are by the liberal agenda in Washington today. You took it hook, line, and sinker. I believe the Constitution, as written, is insufficient in today's world. I support the Federal government over states rights and I believe we need to move toward Socialism in this country. I know this infuriates you, but I don't care. You and the other right-wingers have done enough damage to this country, so we on the left will now take control, little by little. Suppose you lay out the Socialist agenda that you and your kind have for our country. We peasants would like to know what's coming.

 

I will not spend time posting things here that I know will not be accepted. But, I will say that the current health care crisis is a good example of needed federal control of our medical industry in the U.S.
