I am the opposite of a pack rat. I am always giving stuff away - to friends, to charities, to thrift stores, or I throw it away.

:saint: I respectfully decline to answer the question, on the grounds that I might tend to incriminate myself.

If it has not been used in the last two months my wife will get rid of it. After growing up with a mother and grandmother who pack ratted everything she has no patience for unnecessary and unused things just sitting around the house. Maybe you all can help out Mrs. Salty and talk Salty into cleaning out his attic.

I likewise grew up with a packrat, and I abhor it. A few years ago, I had a family member pass away, and his house was so stuffed with junk that it took us two weeks to completely clear out the house after his death. I dont' buy it unless I need it. If it's something I'll onyl use on occaision, such as once a year (ladder, certain power tools), I'll rent them. If it's something I haven't used in 6 months, out it goes.

I also have a cleanign service that comes in every 3 weeks. It forces me to keep the house clean.

I have to plead the 5th on this one. Anything I may say could incriminate me. :)

Nope, not a pack rat here. Hubby and kids are, so I'm always tossing stuff or taking to charity. If I didn't the house would would be unlivable!

I would say that I'm a pack rat to some degree. I like to hang on to certain things because I believe (or would like to believe) that I might have a use for it in the future. I have a spare bedroom that is just dedicated to storage. Most of those things, I never use. However, I will go in there once & a while & clean it out. The one problem I encounter is the dust gets in the air & causes me to start sneezing a lot. I've even thought about sifting through that junk & starting a yard sale. Getting it out would be a hassle though.

Now that I am getting ready to move, I am going thru everything - and much too much is being sent away.

Did have a garage sale - sold a few items, but since a trailer doesnt have an attic, I will have to rent a storage room...

I was raised by uber-packrats and I don't even like knick knacks sitting around. My desk is clear, the counters are clear. Most everything has to go into some organized fashion in a drawer.

    clutter gives me the willies.

Since I live in a trailer, I have no place to store much of anything. I hang onto useful items until I realize that I'm not using it and get rid of it.
