9/11

My brother and I served as part of the Search and Rescue on "the pile" (what the WTC site was called by those working on it at the time) on Sept 14th and 15th.

It was a long, dusty, depressing experience, with no happy ending.

Reliving it isn't helpful.

Flight 93 crashed not far from where we now live. I was there a couple of weeks afterwards, before the fence was up.

Another sad, empty place.

 

Honestly, I don't think about it that much. I've moved on.

Do I believe September 11th was a watershed event? Absolutely.
Do I believe September 11th signalled the end to "business as usual" in terms of foriegn policy and military strategy? Yes, completely.
Do I remember, with honor, those civilians and innocents who died that day? Yes.

But I've moved on. I can remember without being held over to it.

I'll tell you the one thing that does get me about it...how in the world are we coming up on 8 years now and nothing...I mean nothing...is being done in New York City to begin building on the site. That is ridiculous. I'm just saying...

 

I remember that day of course. Our big boss was out of town, and when it happened, we were all in the meeting room watching the T.V. He called in to check in and when he found out we were all in the meeting room watching T.V. he was ticked-off because we weren't working. He had been in meetings and did not know that we were at war. After he found out what had happened, he understood. Only those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

 

The American people have a very short memory, otherwise Obama would not have been elected. President Bush after 9/11 warned that the war on terror would be long but the new administration has terminated that war and renamed it an overseas contingency action. Sort of like the War in Korea was called a Police Action. Only the democrats could pull such a con and survive.

 

As we Texans say: Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!

The Obama Administration has been aggressively de-emphasizing the threat of terrorism.

One way to do that is de-emphasize the terrorist acts that have already occurred...like 911.

 

I agree that for the most part 9/11 is more of a vague memory to most Americans. Yes, in a sense, we as a nation should move on, but we should not ignore the lessons that we should have learned as a result of that tragic day.

I still ponder over some of the things I learned from the volunteers that manned the Flight 93 crash site when I visited it back in September 2002.

One thing I learned from them was that some experts had made several computer simulations of the erratic flight pattern of Flight 93 as its passengers struggled to re-gain control of the aircraft from the terrorists.

They concluded that had Flight 93 crashed just a second or two before it did, that plane would have crashed right into the nearby school complex and some 500 or so children in that school (K - 12) would have died.

You'd almost think that Someone had guided that plane away from that school.

Another thought I took away from visiting the crash site came to me as I viewed the giant cross that someone had erected on that desolate hillside as a part of the temporary memorial to those who sacrificed their lives that September day. I remembered another cross on another desolate hillside over 2,000 years ago on which Jesus Christ sacrificed His life to rescue us from the clutches of the most infamous terrorist of all--Satan himself.
