Swine flu deaths climb, raising next-wave fears
WHO reports at least 625 deaths across globe over past week
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32690557/ns/health-swine_flu/?GT1=43001

The World Health Organization says at least 625 people have been reported dead from swine flu in the last week. That's more than 20 percent of the 2,837 known deaths since the novel virus first emerged in Mexico and the United States earlier this year.

Most of the deaths are in the Western Hemisphere, though the disease is in full-blown global epidemic mode.

WHO said Friday that laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease have now reached 254,206.

Many people here just can't deal with reality.

The WHO doesn't have any idea how many "confirmed" cases of swine flu there is. It's already been admitted.

    1) the WHO is not collecting data on the spread of H1N1 based on systematic lab confirmation.

    2) the WHO in fact discourages national health officials to conduct detection and laboratory confirmation, while also pressuring the countries' public health authorities to duly deliver to the WHO on a weekly basis the data on H1N1 cases.

    3) The WHO in its reporting only refers to "confirmed cases" It does not distinguish between confirmed and non-confirmed case. It would appear that the "non-confirmed" cases are categorized as confirmed cases and the numbers are then used by the WHO to prove that the disease is spreading.

The swine flu has the same symptoms as seasonal influenza: fever, cough and sore throat. What is happening is that the widespread incidence of the common flu is being used to generate the reports delivered to the WHO pertaining to the H1N1 swine flu. Nonetheless, in the tabulated release of country level data, the WHO uses the term: "number of laboratory-confirmed cases", while also admitting that the cases are, in many cases, not confirmed.

I wish people would try keep up with these lies, how about you OR? But you're right, this is just going to be used to grab more power, more money, and more control. Just like the global warming hoax.

thousands of people die from flu every year, so flu deaths are not new, and so far swine flu does not excees normal flu for deaths.

I doubt he does, but he does present a very good case. If the WHO did not exist, would that change one thing about the swine flu? More or less cases? Would it spread to different areas? I doubt swine flu knows a thing about the existence of the WHO.

Your first post sounds like a remake of the Chicken Little and "the sky is falling" routine.

I will rely on the Lord and local doctors to take care of me and my family, and do not need the WHO. I believe the rock band Who was much more entertaining.

Oh, in your signature, I really dont think Abraham, Martin, John, and Bobby would appreciate being compared to a drunken manslaughterer.

Many people in the world have never seen a doctor in their life. Many Americans can't afford one. Your among the lucky but don't worry the Bible tells us to forget about the poor. Right?

Why do you equate helping the poor with a government take over of the health care system? If you were following the Bible as you imply in your answer, then why don't YOU do it, instead of relying on the government. Where in the Bible does it say the government should help the poor. Isn't this a mandate for the local church and individual believers? Do you have a problem with the seperation of church and state? Do you think the federal government is the church?

Excellent question. It appears they do, as long as a liberal is in charge.

Don't come preaching that we should support government welfare or healthcare based on scripture and the later preach separation of church and state.

Lucky? I have been paying for health insurance for almost 40 years now and have only been to the doctor (other than several checkups) just once.

And while there are a few who are poor through no fault of their own, most people (at least in this country) are poor because they fail to work, or waste their money. I am not saying we should not help the poor, we should. But most are poor of their own doing in this country.

Insurance is one of those things you hate until you need it. I have been paying for car insurance for nearly 40 years as well and have never made a single claim. I haven't had a ticket in 30 years, and never had an accident. So why should I pay for insurance?

But that is how it works. Everybody pitches in. Hopefully you never need it, but it is there just in case.

I personally think that opening up insurance companies to cross state lines would help. Competition always drives prices down. Also, if the FDA would loosen some of their rigid regulations and allow medicines that have been approved in other developed countries, this would also increase competition and drive prices down. And tort reform would help as well. Doctors pay enormous insurance premiums for malpractice because of fantastic lawsuits.

Socialized medicine does not work. I work with a lady from Poland, she told me that in her country doctors get paid a certain fee each month regardless of the number of patients they treat. Well guess what? They treat as few patients as possible, there is no incentive to treat as many patients as they can as in this country. So, the service is very slow and poor at that. A doctor in this situation is going to scrimp on treatment as he makes more profit that way.

2,000 Washington State Students Report Signs of Swine Flu
    By WILLIAM YARDLEY
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/health/06flu.html

SEATTLE — At least 2,000 students at Washington State University have reported symptoms of the H1N1 flu virus, university and local health officials said, in what appeared to be one of the largest outbreaks of the virus on a college campus.

“It’s real,” Sally Redman, a registered nurse who works in student health services at Washington State, said Saturday. “We’ve had a constant stream of people.”

So far, the cases at the university have been relatively mild, although at least two people in the area who are not students were hospitalized. The university, based in Pullman, in eastern Washington near the Idaho border, has about 19,000 students at its main campus.

Ms. Redman said the outbreak appeared about Aug. 21, during fraternity and sorority rush but before classes started. After that, she said, “it was rampant.”

As many as 200 students a day have visited or called student health services, reporting sore throats, fevers as high as 104 degrees, muscle aches and coughs.

Dr. Timothy J. Moody, the public health officer for Whitman County, which includes Pullman, said that after a few sample tests at the university were found to be positive for swine flu, students with similar symptoms were also classified as having the virus. He noted that since the spring, nearly all influenza viruses tested from people nationwide with flu symptoms had been H1N1.

In most cases, Washington State students have been told to stay home, rest and take fever-reducing medication. They are not to attend class until at least 24 hours after they have had no fever without taking fever-reducing medication. The university does not have a quarantine program in place, as some other universities do, Ms. Redman said.

The reports from Washington State follow a survey by the American College Health Association, based on data collected from 165 universities in the United States through Aug. 28, that said just over 2,000 students on college campuses nationwide had reported being affected by flulike symptoms.

Dr. Moody said he believed other college campuses that start classes later this month could report outbreaks as students return. He noted that, in general, young adults have proved more susceptible to the virus than older adults, and that students may be particularly vulnerable because they “tend to congregate more, they often live in dorms, they share a lot of things.”

Dr. Moody said local health officials had become concerned as the virus spread beyond the campus. Two members of a local family were hospitalized after they showed symptoms, though both had other health complications, Dr. Moody said. He said they had since been released.

Ms. Redman, the nurse, noted that Saturday’s football game between Washington State and Stanford, in Pullman, was going forward as planned, though university officials urged people with higher health risks to consider not attending. The athletic department planned to distribute antibacterial hand sanitizer at the game.

Ms. Redman, who has been a nurse at the university for 29 years, said the pace of student flu reports appeared to be slowing somewhat, down to about 140 per day, but that it was unclear whether the outbreak was subsiding or students were simply diagnosing themselves.

“They’re motioning to me,” said Ms. Redman, explaining that she would have to end a telephone interview. “I’ve got calls coming in.”

Swine flu causes Stillman to cancel home game

    (AP)
    http://thesiac.com/

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Stillman canceled its home opener against Clark Atlanta because of swine flu, college officials announced Thursday.

Stillman was scheduled to play Clark Atlanta on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. But Tigers football coach L.C. Cole says he noticed some of his players were having flu-like symptoms after a morning workout this week.

Cole says he felt compelled to cancel the game after he learned that about 37 of his players had become sick. The coach says he doesn't know how everyone became sick.

Both schools are unable to reschedule the game for another date, so Stillman had to forfeit the contest. Stillman and Clark Atlanta compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Oh, but it's just a hoax. Everyone is lying when they report cases of swine flu. Satan made them lie.

Is it necessary to call names over a political issue? You see, when you call Brother Curtis such names, it shows a great lack of insight and perception on your part. If you were really paying attention to what Brother Curtis says in general, you would realize there is a greater gap between his stance on most things and the Republicans than you and the Republicans. The reason you do not see it is because you think anyone opposing you is a Republican, when in fact, there is a third side to this equation. In fact, in reality, your type and the Republicans stand side by side and are opposed by those who are truly conservatives and cherish the Constitution.

How did you arrive at this conclusion? Any statistics to back it up? Did Jesus ever say this to anyone?
