Does your Church operate a Van or Bus ministry?

We recently started running a van on Sunday morning, So far it is going great, We have 6 different teams to drive, last night 11 people out of a church of 50 showed up for visitation to promote the ministry.

We haven't in many years but over the last two years, we've been transporting graduate students from a university in the city to our church. All of the students are from China and we've had some great opportunities to minister to them in bringing them into American homes and such. But we don't have a bus ministry to the community since there stopped being a need.

We don't have a bus or van ministry.

I used to attend a church that had a vibrant one but that had fallen off years ago. That is a hard ministry to sustain (not devaluing the ministry here.) Seriously go out on Saturdays and hang out in the neighborhoods, then show up again on Sunday and bus the kids to a church that's more than a healthy distance away, then again on Wednesday. Lots of commitment. It worked for this church while they did it but it was a primary focus. Lots of burnout too.

It can still work, but it requires a significant presence and validation from the leadership. Its hard to do in our context now. Great question. :)

Well we are in a small community and so far the response as been great our Church once had a bad reputation, we trying to change that. The members who were causing trouble ( this is our church we will run it our way " Not God's") are now gone we have even written letters and called past members and Pastors to apologize. God is really blessing we have even reached a few adults through there kids. Just can't wait to see what God is going to do next.

From years of personal expereince I can say, God starts a ministry like this and only He shuts it down. No matter how many we visited each week no one would start the bus, and the same ones we'd always had stopped, all at once, one sunday we had a vn full, next week no ot, for 3 months not one, we visited our regulars, we visited hundreds of new families. nothing. God was done, He was moving on to something else and we kept trying to make a ministry work that was done. you just have to be sensitive to God's calling for ministry. Otherwise it's nothing more the human effort, and we spent 3 useless months on human effort.

We use our van to transport only those who contact us. They are usually children whose parents won't bring them and those that are invited by people already riding the van.

We thought about doing more but insurance and personel kept us from doing it.
