It's a bit late for them, but here they are anyway.

    AFC East
Can it be anybody but the Patriots? The Bills are a mess. I'm not convinced that the Dolphins are as good this year as they were last, though I think they get a Wild Card slot. The Jets with a rookie QB and rookie head coach? Sorry, not this year.

    AFC Central
The Ravens are winning this division. The Steelers can't run the ball, which is a big deal only if Roethlisberger takes a beating every week. Even with Palmer back, if he is back, I don't believe in the Bungles at all. The Browns? Please.

    AFC South
This is the toughest division in the AFC. The Titans are still good. The Colts are the big unknown with their new coach. Houston's offense is terrific, but their defense isn't. Jacksonville will continue to be bad and this will be Jack Del Rio's last year. I'm going with the Colts to win the division because of Peyton Manning, with the Titans taking the Wild Card.

    AFC West
There are 2 reason I hate to pick the Chargers. #1, everybody else seems to be picking them. #2, enough with the "they're so talented" line. If the Chargers were as talented as purported to be, they would have won more than they have. The Raiders are a laughingstock. I would have picked the Chiefs had they not a) made that weird Tony Gonzalez trade and b) just fired their offensive coordinator. I don't really know what they're doing in KC. I don't like the Broncos defense, but, while Kyle Orton isn't Jay Cutler, I still like Orton and I think the Broncos will win the weak AFC West.

    NFC East
I don't like the Cowboys to be anything but mediocre and I like the Redskins even less. I would pick the Iggles, but I'm not sure that defense is going to be good enough without Jim Johnson, RIP, running it. The Giants defensive line is stacked and while they may struggle putting points on the board, they'll put up enough to win the division. The Eagles will get a Wild Card slot.

    NFC South
Atlanta is not repeating their season from a year ago. For one, they won't have the Bears giving away a game to them this year. I think the Buccaneers will be terrible and the Panther's problem is that Jake Delhomme is their QB. I'm not sold on the Saints defense, but I think they win the division.

    NFC Central
The Liedowns can only go up and I think they win 2 or 3 games because I think Jim Schwartz knows what he is doing. He's sort of from the Belichick coaching tree, which hasn't produced much at the pro level, but he also spent time under one of the best coaches in the league, Jeff Fisher. Bold prediction: I think the Brett Favre era in Minnesota will be a complete failure. I think Brad Childress is the worst coach in the league and I don't think 40 year old QBs engineer a way to avoid training camp, then ride in on their white horse to save the day. The Packers are going to be good and I fear they're going to win the division. My pick for the division is as much with my heart as my head, as I'm going with the Bears to win the division and the Packers to get the Wild Card.

    NFC South
I love Kurt Warner, but I'm not sure he'll be able to stay healthy for 16 games. I like Mike Singletary, and those guys will play their guts out for him, but I don't think the Niners have enough. The Rams will likely be a little better this year, but I don't like them as division winners. I do like the Seahawks to win the division.

    AFC Playoff Field
    Baltimore
    New England
    Indianapolis
    Denver
    Tennessee
    Miami

    NFC Playoff Field
    New York
    New Orleans
    Chicago
    Seattle
    Green Bay
    Philadelphia

    Wild Card
    Indianapolis over Miami
    Tennessee over Denver
    Chicago over Philadelphia
    Green Bay over Seattle

    Divisional Playoffs
    Tennessee over Baltimore
    Indianapolis over New England
    Green Bay over New York
    Chicago over New Orleans

    Championship
    Tennessee over Indianapolis
Chicago over Green Bay - This would be one of the toughest games ever for me to watch.

    Super Bowl
    Chicago over Tennessee

    AFC East
Patriots. Brady's back, and the defense isn't too old yet to stop the meager offenses in this division.
    AFC North
Perhaps the toss up division. Steelers have some questions at RB. Bengals have to prove they can be healthy and that the defense's improvement last year was no fluke. Ravens? They yo-yo worse than Kirstie Alley (Shouldn'tve said that) and this year they have a tough schedule. Allegedly some team in Clev is in this division. I'll take the Steelers by default, and thanks to their new found running and defense, I'll take the Bengals to back into a wild card spot
    AFC South
The Titans are taking steps back and Kerry's a year older. No solid WR emerges. The Colts have a new coach, and the Texans are questionable past the front four on D. Jacksonville can't get it together. I like the Colts only because of Mr. Manning, and the Titans could likely win the WC by default.
    AFC West
San Diego will win the division. Someone has to.

    NFC East
Giants. When you have a Manning at QB, you have all you need. They'll eek out WC teams PHI and DAL.
    NFC North
This division is perplexing. Someone has to win the division, and yet everyone has reasons they won't. I'll take the Vikings to repeat (I don't think Favre will make them worse). Chicago's D is getting older and they have too many questions on the other side of the ball too (save Matt Forte). Detroit will get lovely parting gifts in the form of a high draft pick
    NFC South
New Orleans will win this despite a new DC. ATL and CAR will slug it out for the "close..but not quite" award
    NFC West
Arizona has a stronger record this year. I don't see them falling away, but I don't see them repeating. I like Seattle to conquer a weaker schedule and win this division, with Zona second and the fighting Singletaries to create some noise.

AFC Playoff teams: Steelers, Colts, Titans, Patriots, Chargers, Bengals
NFC Playoff teams: Seahawks, Saints, Vikings, Giants, Cowboys, Eagles.

AFC Title game: Patriots over Chargers.
NFC Title game: Giants over Eagles

    Super Bowl: Patriots over Giants

(CCrob...there are no more Central divisions and the NFC doesn't have two Southern divisions). Forgive my correction. What do I know? I just picked the Bengals to get to the post season.

    You're exactly right, Tom.

Just remember these brain fades when I disavow all knowledge of having picked the Bears to win the Super Bowl. :wavey:

    Ridiculous.

    :tongue3:

So the Titans -- a Very Good Defense -- were able to limit the Steeler's run game. on one Thursday night?

    Result?

    Pittsburgh - W, Tn - L

Don't read too much into it.

Besides, defense wins championships, and the Steelers defense is better this year than last.

My predictions for the 2009 NFL season:

    • numerous millionaires will don plastic helmets and hurt one another approximately once a week.
    • several said millionaires will experience a significant injury to a leg or arm before their 25th birthday.
    • Brett Favre will play over his head for a few weeks and then start playing... well, let's just say we will be reminded why he retired.
    • Several millionaires will consume a banned substance and insist in was hidden in their SugarPop cereal.
    • The Dallas Cowboys will continue to help build KenH's character as he learns another important lesson in disappointment.
    • The Arizona Cardinals will answer the question asked last season, "Is this a fluke?" Ci, ja, oui.
    • At least 20 players per position will be referred to by TV commentators as, '''perhaps the best (fill in the position) in the league."
    • The Buffalo Bills are in a rebuilding year. Again.
Who will make it to the playoffs? Ain't got a clue.

I live in New York. We have three professional football teams. Okay, technically two of them are in New Jersey and the only one in the state wants to move to Canada. Nonetheless, there are three teams that claim to be New York teams. Is it too much to ask for one of them to be stellar?

Da Bears, ccr? Kinda redefines the term fantasy football, eh?

Why would you think I'm basing my statements on one game? Do you want to dispute that the Steelers weren't a good running team last year? The Steelers were a passing team last year and continue to be so through 1 game.

The Steelers defense limits a relatively weak offense to 10 points and you declare them better this year? Who's reading too much into 1 game again? :tongue3:

The Steeler's marquee RB was injured for most of last season. This season, Willie Parker is back. Do your own research and look up his numbers, then come back and tell me how lackluster a running team the Steelers are with WP.

Bill Belly=check is a classless, ignorant bum whose autograph I'd toss in the trash if I came across it. Justice and decency requires that the Patriots -- despite many talented and classy players -- lose and lose big when it counts -- even after a perfect season.

You can make all the excuses you want about not having Willie Parker, but the problem goes beyond a single running back.

Not sure what Belicheck has to do with any of this.

Not to mention the fact that the Steelers have a much tougher schedule this year. I don't hate the Steelers. I don't think they overwhelmed anyone in the playoffs. The Steelers avg only 3.5 YPC last year and and gave up 57 sacks. So there's merit to the notion that the OL isn't doing many favors. Willie may help. Remains to be seen.

BTW, the stuff that I quoted was said by Jerome Bettis on cnnsi.com.

Notice Bettis is a commentator, not a coach. The Offensive Line gets blamed for plenty, but the fact is Ben holds onto the ball and extends plays long after the pocket is gone -- no matter who is on the Off line.

    No wonder he gets sacked.

You claimed the Pats were going to make the playoffs. Given that they beat the Bills only due to the Bills terrible time and game management, I'd say they are off to a rocky start. Anytime Beliicheck's record is blemished, I'm ecstatic.

Yes, he's a former player who presumably knows what he's talking about.

I thought we were talking about the Willie Parker and the Steelers running game, not Ben Roethlisberger. He may or may not hold onto the ball too long, but that has little to do with whether the line can block effectively for the RB.

Sorry, I'm slow and I don't see how Belichick getting busted for videotaping 2 years ago affects whether the Patriots make the playoffs this year. Connect the dots for me.

Ok. So what? The Pats are still 1-0.

So, you're happy that Belichick's record this year was blemished with a win? I'm confused.

Good teams snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. People forget - despite the Bills' mistakes, the Pats still had to capitalize....and they did. I don't care for them, nor Bellicheck, but they're 1-0. And CCROB is right: pass blocking and run blocking are two different things.
