Obama Will Spend More on Welfare in the Next Year Than Bush Spent on Entire Iraq War, Study Reveals

    Wednesday, September 23, 2009
    By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) – As a candidate for president, Barack Obama decried the financial toll that the Iraq war was taking on the economy, but Obama’s proposed spending on welfare through 2010 will eclipse Bush’s war spending by more than $260 billion.

“Because of the Bush-McCain policies, our debt has ballooned,” then-Sen. Barack Obama told a Charleston, W.V., crowd in March 2008. “This is creating problems in our fragile economy. And that kind of debt also places an unfair burden on our children and grandchildren, who will have to repay it.”

    SNIP

President Obama’s welfare spending will reach $888 billion in a single fiscal year--2010--more than the Bush administration spent on war in Iraq from the first “shock and awe” attack in 2003 until Bush left office in January.

Thanks for the good news. It would be terrible if we spent more on killing people than helping people.

It would be even worse if we spent so much buying votes that we couldn't protect ourselves.

Thats right we should not be killing people who are determined to kill us.

And I agree with you Bill, we never should have declared war against Japan

The article doesn't talk about any new programs Obama has initiated. It's talking about growth of the GW Bush programs.

Which ones, specifically. Besides, this is a well-known biased source of misinformation.

Being that Japan declared war first, our declaration was only a formality. At least FDR and that congress had the decency and correctness to go thru the pro forma procedure. How many wars have we been in, even started since that Dec 8th? FDR was the LAST president to declare war.

    >Thats right we should not be killing people who are determined to kill us.

    Who invaded whom?

When did Afghanistan or Iraq declare war on the US? When did we declare war on them?

How many times have we invaded Pakistan in the last half dozen years?

"According to his White House budget proposal, President Barack Obama will increase annual federal welfare spending by one-third, from $522.4 billion to $697 billion in his first fiscal year. Adjusted for inflation, the combined two-year increase of $263 billion is greater than any increase in welfare spending in history. "

Yep, let's continue the culture of entitlement hooking more and more people on the government as the source of their lively hood. And, let's do it by stealing from those who work hard and achieve. Problem is that pretty soon there won't be anyone left to steal from to support the dependent. Way to go President Obama.

In 2000, the year before Bush became President, the Federal government spent approximately $171.38 billion in welfare programs. When he left in 2008, the amount was approximately $313.42 billion. Percentage increase: 82.9%. Now the projections for federal welfare payments in 2014 is projected to be $373.22 billion. Percentage increase: 19.1%. Now, I realize that these figures for Bush are for 8 years and Obama is for 6. Still, I doubt the extra two years will make that much of a difference.

Where are you getting your numbers from?

Is this mythical $373 billion in 2014 based on his magical projected savings in health care?

I consider this good news. Now if we can get out of both Iraq and Afghanistan I think it would be even better.
