I agree with Robinson .... people dance all around this issue, but few are honest or willing to face it.

"This denial of legitimacy is more pernicious than the abuse heaped upon George W. Bush by his critics..."

    Subjective at best.

The whole article is mere speculation.

No one can read the hearts of others - especially others that one has not ever met.

Well, why don't you face it then?

Do you ever consider that your uncritical support of Obama may be due to some sort of guilt that you harbor over latent racist feelings on your part?

Jimmy Carter is a race baiter and evidently so is Crabtownboy.

Not really, but it would be good to have a calm, rational discussion and not knee jerk reactions. I doubt this will happen in my lifetime.

Why are you afraid to discuss the issue?

I listened to an NPR report this morning about the whole race thing. Where did they go? Selma, Alabama. Who did they interview? The African-Americans were Democrats, the whites were Republicans. The whole thing was a farce and was very ridiculous. I don't recommend anyone go and listen to the report.

I guess the younger generation must be looking at these kinds of senationalistic pieces and rolling their eyes. Race has little to do with the real issues. Former President Carter was dead wrong on his analysis and should never have made that statement.

The difficulty here is that it isn't a white and black thing anymore. African-Americans are no longer the dominant minority group, Hispanic Americans are. There are also Asian-Americans and other ethnicities in this conversation. When the media defaults to white versus black it is harkening to a storyline that gets them ratings and is specious journalism at best.

So, have you examined your own motivation for supporting Obama?

Have you considered that it could be driven by guilt for latent racist feelings?

How much is an overwhelming portion? No facts, no statistics, no quantifiable number - just an overwhelming portion. I would hope a former president would be able to access real data and not -as we call it in this neck of the woods - a scientific wild guess.

Back to the title of the OP: The Favor Jimmy Carter Did Us All... I thought it was a thread on him losing his re-election bid in 1980.

    LOL, Padre!

I'm not a racist. I look at the young black man dressed like a gang-banger AND the young white man dressed like a gang-banger with the same wariness. These generalities from the media get me upset because I'm lumped in with them along with a good number of excellent people I know and it's just not right.

    Excellent, Targus. Excellent.

Especially since C.T.B. is one of three people on this board who has called me a "bigot", and refused to explain it.

    Excellent.

No the guilt is real - they are racist.

They believe that the Black man is incapable by virtue of race.

Not that it isnt real but it is a false guilt based on fabricated issues.

They are race baiters and furthering the race problem rather than working to eliminate it.

When race baiting liberals ay they want to talk about it what that means is that they want to talk you into admitting what is not true and bowing to obama.

    Really????

From the article posted by Crabbtownboy:
Of course it's possible to reject Obama's policies and philosophy without being racist. But there's a particularly nasty edge to the most vitriolic attacks -- a rejection not of Obama's programs but of his legitimacy as president. This denial of legitimacy is more pernicious than the abuse heaped upon George W. Bush by his critics (including me), and I can't find any explanation for it other than race.

So one can reject his policies and philosophy and it not be racist but if one questions his legitimacy as president then the only explanation is that it's because Obama is black?

    This is totally ridiculous!!!

And also as for questioning his legitimacy being "more pernicious than the abuse heaped upon George W. Bush by his critics":

    This is totally absurd!!

Oh, and the favor Carter did us was to drive that wedge deeper!!
