Obama's Ride to War on Iran

Posted by Daniel McAdams on September 25, 2009 10:42 PM

"Faced with the uncomfortable and politically unacceptable reality that there exists no evidence that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon, confirmed by his own intelligence community, President Obama has taken a page from the book of his predecessors FDR, LBJ, GWB, and so on: he simply made something really scary-sounding up to justify his push toward war.

This time it is the artificially manufactured hype around an Iranian uranium enrichment facility that is under construction. Keep in mind that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Iran, under Article IV of said treaty, has every right to enrich uranium to its heart’s content. The treaty clearly states: “Nothing in this Treaty shall be interpreted as affecting the inalienable right of all the Parties to the Treaty to develop research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination and in conformity with Articles I and II of this Treaty.”

Iran has, dutifully and ahead of required schedule, notified the International Atomic Energy Agency, tasked with monitoring adherence to the NPT, of its intent to bring this enrichment facility online in approximately 18 months. But where there is no smoking gun, lighter fluid must be ignited: to undercut the Five Plus One talks with Iran scheduled to begin on October first, the Obama administration has invented indignation over discovery of this plant while at the same time holding to the story that the US Intelligence Community has known about this facility, which Obama says is “inconsistent with a peaceful (nuclear) program,” since 2006. As one administration official stated regarding the upcoming talks in light of his “discovery”: “Everybody’s been asking, ‘Where’s our leverage?’ Well, now we just got that leverage.” And right in the nick of time!"

The most hypocritical stance the Obama supporters take is their blind eye to the continuation of two illegal wars, along with the encroachment into Pakistan, and the beating of war drums against Iran.

There is the problem with declaring people "Obama supporters". I think most people support some of his polices and not others. There has never been a politician with whom I agree 100%.

As for Afghanistan, I am torn. Iraq was trumped up. Afghanistan harbored those who attacked us. But like Vietnam, either we go in to win, or we should get out. The arrests of alleged terrorist this week in Springfield, Dallas, and Denver should tell us all, the bad guys are still out there seeking to cause havoc.

I agree. But there is a part of me that wonders if these recent arrests are getting so much media attention to show that we need the domestic spying to continue.

    Different thread, I guess.

But I say again, the anti-war liberals get played just like the anti-abortion conservatives by the major parties.

Curtis, frankly it would not surprise me if you are right about that.

Hey, while we are playing nice, let me say something. I would PM this, but since exchanges have been in public, I'll do it here. We have both gone at each other pretty hard at times, but I want to tell you I apologize to you for the way I spun your words, particularly attacking your character and for implying some pretty bad things about your pastor. Just wanted to say that.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

M.P., I would say that our ability to lock horns with each other and NOT send each other extra curricular P.M.s sets a great example.

And I do humbly apologize to you for the nastiness I have showed in the public forums. I imagine we will be at each other's throats sometime in the future, but I do respect you, and consider you a worthy opponent. I will never bring up those conversations again.

So now on the heals of the so called "illegal" and "unjustified" war in Iraq we toy with expanded war in Afghanistan and a new war with Iran. What happened to all the cries to "end the war now"? Did they get put aside after all the suckers finished casting their votes?

Now isn't that a kick in the head, Barack Obama as the agent of war, and civil liberties. Ironic isn't it? The same idiots that voted for him perpetuate the Bush policies they so much hated. Maybe it will get through everyone's thick skull there is no difference between the two parties.

    Here's your sign.

I heard those on the left claim that Bush's FBI made these "arrests" to do various things: increase support for the war, increase sagging poll numbers, etc. Yet faced with similar dilemmas, Obama has been free of this criticism by and large.

Why the double standard? I think Curtis, MP, and Ken are on to something. That said, Iran seems to be spoiling for a fight, but why do we have to be the ones to take the bait?

The FBI sting culminated in Thursday's arrest after Smadi parked a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, supplied by the FBI, in the garage of the emerald-green glass office tower that is home to many businesses, including a Wells Fargo Home Mortgage office.

Inside the SUV was a fake bomb, designed to appear similar to one used by Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Authorities say Smadi thought he could detonate it with a cellphone. After parking the vehicle, he got into another vehicle with one of the agents, and they drove several blocks away.

An agent offered Smadi earplugs, but he declined, "indicating that he wanted to hear the blast," authorities said. He then dialed the phone, thinking it would trigger the bomb, authorities said. Instead, the agents took him into custody.

Counterterrorism officials heralded the Dallas arrest as an example of the proactive effectiveness of a reorganized FBI in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"A coordinated undercover law enforcement action was able to thwart his efforts and ensure no one was harmed," said David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security in Washington. SOURCE

You mean arrests like this? The FBI "discovered" this guy then gave him a fake bomb. It's always the same. Find a patsy stupid enough to go along with the FEDs, set him up, stab him in the back, arrest him so they can get big headlines and count themselves worthy of ever more funding, power and control.

Proactive effectiveness my foot. This is same kind of tactics that was used when Bush was the puppet in chief. This is how they're keeping us safe?

If the FEDs spent half the time and money keeping real terrorists from coming through our still unsecured borders as they do finding and framing these idiots they've already let waltz into the country it would be tax money much wiser spent imho.

They spend more time chasing headlines than they do the real bad guys.

Fake terror busts. That's what we get for our billions in tax dollars folks.
