SCOTUS will rule in favor of the cross remaining. It will rule that the cross is a secular memorial, not a government endorsement or religion.

It probably will, but I don't see how the symbol of Christianity can be seen as secular.

Perhaps because there are so many nominal Christians.

It is not secular neither does it establish a religion.

I never said the cross was secular. I said that in this case, the court will rule that the use of the cross is as a secular memorial, not as an endorsement of religion.

When one realizes that this situation was resolved amicably 5 years ago, when the land the cross is on became private land, that this is not really about a religious symbol on public land, it's about a religious symbol on public display.

That wasn't good enough for Christ haters, so a rogue court invalidated the transfer.

    And here we are.

What a stupid issue to bring before the court.

The cross is not on private land. An attampt was made to transfer the portion of the lanch on which the cross sits to private ownership, but an appeals court invalidated that transfer, citing it was an attempt to circumvent the law.

That's actually something I agree with. I don't like the idea of the governmet having to privatize every swath of land that has a display that can be construed as religious. Can you imagine having to privatize the USS Arizona memorial?

If someone raises a cross in the desert and no one knows, does it make a difference?

    Only in Washington.

If I argue with my wife in the desert and no one hears me, am I still wrong?

You nailed it! They use"Religious" reasons to keep God out of public displays. Do Christians pay public taxes too as well as the God haters?

    Good one.
There are many crosses, (I don't know if they are on private land but given the way things are here, it is most probable), just about everywhere along any stretch of highway here in Texas. Most people do not even notice them.
There is a huge one on a hill near Van Horn. There is a huge one on the road from Rankin to Midland. (Those from these parts from Texas will know where I'm talking about.)
There are many more that I know of here.
But you are right CTB, it seems no one cares unless they can get noticed from their 'offense' to it.
    Sad.

Yes. That does not, however, mean the Christian faith should be excepted from Amendment I. If this display were an intent by a government entity to respect an establishment of religion, I'd be the first to say it should go. But it's not, which is why SCOTUS will allow it to stay.
