For me the only thing that should matter is that they NEVER dump their faith in Jesus Christ; NEVER dump the message of the Gospel; NEVER dump their faith in His written Word to lead them through this life; NEVER forsake the gathering of their selves together to worship, praise, sing Psalms, study the Word, and open the alters for the lost, at whatever the cost.

These, and many more spiritual issues are more important to me than what we call ourselves. After all, in the end, eternity will be shared with those who trusted in Jesus Christ to save them, not what denomination they clung to.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul:type:

There's something called the reply button. It's what I used to just reply to your post.

Yeah, I was wondering, too, why a new thread was started.

Since this thread is here, "dumping" is exactly the word which expresses how I feel about dropping the name "Baptist" from my church.

We are not a denomination, but a fellowship of believers, and I cherish that in this old world. We pulled away from a liberal group of Baptists, but we didn't surrender the name that meant so much to us.

I fail to see how another nebulous name will attract more than living up to the name Baptist. If you must explain who you are anyway, why not explain what a true Baptist is?

    Cheers,

    Jim

I agree. But to be safe let's be sure to forward this to the committee on commitees for a list of candidates to run this committee. In the meantime may we also submit a list of possible committee names for a floor motion to be reviewed by the select chair on names and nameability. This is to be sure that the purview of this committee is in line with their created order. Maybe the first meeting of said committee should be to consider their boundaries and agenda topics. Likewise if we could get a motion to consider the question presented to the assembly so we can table the discussion until a quorum is established I think this would make for a profitable meeting.
