The correct title to be used.

    Some preachers insist on being called Reverend, some will not acknowledge the title, with many other views in
    between.

    Rom Catholic, Episcopal, and Anglicans ministers are referred to as "Father"

    Some Baptist refused to call a priest "Father" others have no problem with that term, and others with many views in between the two extremes.

    So where do you stand on those two issues:

    "Don't call me late for supper" Salty

    PS - serious question - would are female Episcopal priests addressed "Father" or "Mother"

    I use "Brother" if I use a title at all. I see no man as "Reverend", and I only have my earthly father and my heavenly Father. When I introduce my pastor, I will use the title "Pastor", but only in the introduction. After that I will use his name.

    The way I see it, a preacher is just a man like any other. I am a preacher, but I don't use a title, not would I allow it.

    Hello,

    Personally, I do not think "father" should be used.

    I would like the title to be "God-is-lending-me-the-title-pastor-for-now".

    "Brother David" will do

    I'm not a minister, but Reverned is a fine style for ministers. Also, I have no problem calling Catholic priests "Father."

    Jim is my name, Pastor is the office I fill, Reverend Dr.........satisfies the government, and I really don't care what people call me.

    I absolutely refuse the term "Father". That was reserved for God, and my Dad.

    By the way, not all Anglicans accept the term "Father" either. Most to-day use their first name.

    I call my pastor by his first name unless a church function is taking place, then I call him "pastor."

    I refuse the title Reverend (it reminds me of the two on the political scene - Jackson and Sharpton, neither of which I want to be associated with).
    For the most part, my church folks call me Pastor, or Preacher. Those my age and older often call me by my first name. One man in my church calls me Padre - fine with me. I really don't care, just as long as it's not idiot, worthless, useless, or our soon-to-be former pastor.

    I like to be called "Brother." I agree with another poster that "Reverend" makes me sound like Al Sharpton.

    However, on some forms and such, "Rev." can mean simply "ordained." So you have to go ahead and check the silly little box...

    Don't care for the title "Brother."

    "Pastor" is what I prefer if someone is going to use a title. Other than that, my preferred title is Tom.

    Until I get my doctorate, that is :laugh:

    Reverand is reserved just for God. And the Bible says to call no man father. Therefore I absolutly reject those 2. I am mainly called brother, some will call me preacher, but in my association the official is elder.

    What verse is your reference for that statement? Shall I call my mother father then?

    Many will use Psalms 111:9 - He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend [is] his name.

    I have heard some say that this verse tells us that ONLY God is reverend; but it does not say that. And further, if that were the case, then we could not be called holy either.

    This link is from a Church of Christ(non-instrumental) page - which in part states :
    "We reject the use of Reverend because we believe it is the kind of religious title forbidden by Christ in Matthew 23.8-12 when He said we were to call no man "Rabbi" or "Father" or "Master" in a religious sense. The word "Reverend" is used only once in the Bible (KJV) in Psalm 111.9, and there it is used in connection with God! The word refers to something which is to be held in reverence! It is inappropriate to apply it to men. "

    When addressing someone in authority, from the President, down to the Principal of the local elementary school, we show respect by addressing them by their official title or one such as Mr.

    I contend we should show respect to our pastors/elders in the same manner. I am not hardcore about being addressed as Rev, but Pastor is just fine

    "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven." - Mt 23:9. Also, Jesus just said don't call anyone Rabbi, leader, or teacher, either. Context is thy name :thumbs:

    Paul tell the Corthinans in I Cor 4:15 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn [you].

    and in verse 17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church

    By calling these Christians "sons" is not Paul infering that he is their "Father"?

    And the term Rabbi means "teacher". Does that mean we need to come up with another term for those who instruct our children in Sunday School?

    'Roger' works fine for me.

    It seems that 'Paul' was good enough for Paul as well.
