..........Long before Tuesday's vote, the White House rejected suggestions that the gubernatorial elections would be tantamount to referendums on Obama. Indeed, the votes took place in just two of the 50 U.S. states. Local issues and personalities dominated campaigns.

Still, exit polls showed more than four in 10 voters in Virginia said their view of Obama factored into their choice. Those voters roughly split between expressing support and opposition for the president. The Obama factor was similar in New Jersey, though there were slightly more voters who said the president did not factor into their choice.

I'd say it was a bit of a mix bag and off year elections have proven historically to be poor predictors of the future.

You selected that which you wanted and ignored or forgot that the Republicans lost a seat in Congress that they have owned for over a century.

I see nothing at all surprising in the results. Historically the party in power in DC has lost in the off year elections. To me this election is just business as usual in American history.

Don't make a mountain out of this mole hill.

    What you ignored was this:

Still, exit polls showed more than four in 10 voters in Virginia said their view of Obama factored into their choice.

Anyways I do hope that you liberals keep thinking that way.

Tell that to the Blue Dogs up for re-election in 2010.

Can you say "no public option"?

It would be so nice if you tried to be rational.

I am parroting history. If the Republicans do not make gains in 2010 then they are in very deep trouble. I predict they will make gains in 2010.

Now, if they go extreme, as they did in New York they, the Republicans, may snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It will be interesting to watch.

But, again, unless they shoot themselves in the foot the Republicans should make gains in 2010. History is a pretty good indicator.

The extreme was putting up a liberal for a Republican candidate. Do you want some history? Here is a fact, when conservatives stand on hard core conservative principles they win every time. When they get wishy washy and act like libbies they lose. You can't out lib a liberal. The margin of loss in NY was one point. And the conservative candidate entered late and the Rhino exited at the last minute.

Irrational thinking is that Conservatives have to act like liberals.

So you don't think that the Dem losses yesterday will effect the Blue Dog support for the health scare bill?

It may or it may not. More importantly is where do the voters seem to be heading on this one in the near future and what are their big money donaters saying. They will go where the votes and money are regardless of what is best for the American people. What is best for the American people? I don't know. This is not my field. I do know that our current system is not as good as it should be for many people. We can do better and I hope we do.

Apparently that Republican web site MSNBC  thinks this was a pretty big deal.

But they're a conservative news source so it probably doesn't matter. :saint:

Sure...why not let government control everything? I'm sure they know what's best for us. We should trust them. They would never lead us astray. They love us. We should serve them. Without them, we are nothing.

Whoops...glad I slipped out of that trance, and joined the land of the brain-active.

Note to self: Don't trust the all-knowing, all-powerful, imperial federal government. Continue to bring up the idea of "Freedom." If CTB is against it, you should be encouraged...

This is my field...Freedom is best for Americans. How quaint.

I'll push this with all my might. You can either get on board, or not. I really don't care.

This is a clear repudiation of the Marxist policies of Obama and perhaps a prelude to another 1994.

It is obvious that the Marxists think what is best for the American people is serfdom. I know what is best: Freedom Now! Yesterday was a start. No to government takeover of health care! No to cap and tax! No to Obama!

Well, for once I agree with you. When we get rid of all you non-working, money-grabbing, socialists who want to do away with the freedoms of this great country, the better off we will all be.
By the way, your socialist ideas worked REALLY GREAT in Europe.
Guess that's why people from all over the world try to come to America. EVEN ILLEGALLY.

Actually, Rev Mitchell is one of the more rational people on this board. You are good at parroting whether it be history or the Democratic-liberal-socialist agenda. The opposite of parroting is thinking for yourself. If you do not think that a governor winning in Virginia or New Jersey, then think again. Those states are rich in electoral votes. One thing you say is right. Republicans will make gains in the 2010 election.

You mention the race in NY. The lesson of NY is another point that seems to escape you time after time, since your entire world is Democrat vs Republican. The Republican dropped out, and who did he endorse, the liberal Democrat. The lesson of the contest is that there is no difference between the two parties as far as taking this nation back to Constitutional and honest government. You will watch Republicans make gains and elected again after the Democrats fail. Then the Republicans will fail, and those who think like you will put back into power the same loser Democrats. On and on goes the cycle. Until you realize that this country is better than choosing between a D and an F in an election, nothing will change. Soon, the American people are going to wake up, and boot out both parties, leaving your mindset on the ash heap of history.
