Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent "considerable time" consoling those who were wounded in Thursday's shooting spree, Fox News has learned.

The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.

    Good for the Bushes.

I don't why they Bushes were not praised for this without slamming President Obama.

    The contrast is inescapable.

Our presidents should have a modicum of dignity and class.

Bush does. Obama doesn't. It's that simple.

So? I still don't see why one person's good deed can't be praised without slamming another person.

    Sure you do.

    You're just making noise.

No, I am being quite sincere.

Both men are big government advocates. I am glad that President Bush made this visit. A good deed does not offset the massive increase in the size and scope of government that President Bush oversaw.

I am not going to allow my personal feelings toward either man to cause me to lose sight of the goal of having limited government in the United States.

I knew you couldn't resist an opportunity to bash Bush. You're a Bush basher from way back.

What's really eating you is that he's being praised at all.

    Hypocrite.

Yes. I will criticize anyone who favors big government. I wish you would join me in supporting limited government and opposing big government - regardless of who it is who is supporting big government.

Yep. And you made sure you went off topic in this thread to bash Bush.

If you'd like to discuss the growth of government and compare Bush and Obama, go ahead and start a thread about it. I guarantee you I'll participate.

Just please stop your pious posturing. You're not fooling anyone here. This thread is about a president that acts with class. Why don't you try showing a little yourself by curbing your Bush bashing tendencies until the proper time.

Yep they are and I would never vote for Bush again. Between his failure in economics and immigration he was very disappointing. But Obama is pure evil and only looking out for himself. Bush did what he thought was best for others. Pointing that out in no way causes anyone to lose sight of anything. And the implication is absurd.

So it is okay to drastically increase the size and scope of government as long as one is doing "what he thought was best for others"?

No wonder our national government has, for all practical purposes, been allowed to put the constitution in the trash can.

    1) I was not the one who started the comparisions and the bashing.

    2) If you want to defend George W. Bush's big government policies, go ahead. I won't defend either man's big government policies.

You were the one that brought up the offtopic subject of growth of government to give you an opportunity to dump on Bush.

I won't defend or bash Bush's economic policies here. This is not the place.

Start another thread and stop your off topic Bush hating ramblings while trying to cover them with pious pretensions.

There is no mention of the O in the Fox News Article.

Why concern yourself and complain about another forum. It wasn't in this thread until you introduced it. You started it...... noone else. Face the music and stop complaining. It's really not very becoming.

There are lots of things Bush did that I did not agree with, but I have to agree with you here. The man did have class, and dignity. Bush's greatest asset was his respect for the military. I also give him credit for his Supreme Cout nominees.

Why are you attempting to derail this thread?

The topic is not big government or opposing big government.

Your constant harping about big government in every thread possible is kind of a big government tactic.

Intrusive - out of place - and not authorized by the founder of this board. :tongue3:

The title of this thread bashes President Obama. If the person who started this thread did not want to have comparisons between the immediately preceding president and the current president in this thread, then he should not have done so in the very title of the thread.
