The name Baptist.

I agree. The fact that a church is Biblically based is much more important than the "name." As a parent, this becomes even more important. My daughter attends a wonderful church near her college campus. If you carefully search their web site, you would find that they are associated with the SBC. Otherwise, you would really never know that they are a Baptist church.

 

In view of Baptist history and heritage, I find it to be very important that Baptist be in the name of a Baptist church.

 

I want Baptist to be in the name of the church.

 

I voted that as long as a church is Bible-based, it's okay.

However, if I do attend a church that is Baptist in nature/origin, I want it to have Baptist in the name (which is the church I attend now).

 

I want to be Baptist in a setting that acknowledges its relationships and commitments.

I am not sure that "Bible-based" means anything. Just about any church, with the possible exception of Unitarian-Universalist, would claim to be Bible-based. You or I might judge them not to be accurate in that claim, but that's our own assessment, and somebody else might assess our "Bible-based" church as NOT so described. I guess I am also uncomfortable with the phrase because, in my experience, it is often used to describe a very conservative stance as well as to bash other people.

Baptist born, Baptist bred, and when I'm gone I'll be a Baptist dead.

 

If I wasn't Baptist, I would be ashamed of myself! I don't have elders either.

I agree, and Bible Based is a correct statement. Some say they are but are not. And it is correct that a Bible based church will be conservative.

 

Just wondering, what do you mean conservative?

 

I think I understand your two concerns. First there are ways though to determine a church's vision & beliefs more than just their name. Also, their name -- be it Baptist, Methodist, etc. -- can mean so many things -- especially today. On the second issue, I agree -- I've seen it too.
