    Let me guess, Ken.

You started this thread in defense of Obama bowing to the Emperor.

Have you decided to ease out of your current Constitutionalist position and back into the liberal democrat camp?

But you are afraid of the teasing that you will get for yet another huge flip-flop?

Don't worry about it - no one really expected you to stay with one position very long anyway.

There was a book out some years back..... at least as early as 2004 with this or a similar picture on the front about the Saudi-Bush connection. I read it. Old photo?

Since you asked the question, Ken, why not tell us what it means to you?

In some cultures it is a way of showing friendship. Not to do so may be viewed as an insult.

Remember in Slovakia when he forgot to take his gloves off when shaking hands with the Slovakian president ... that was a huge insult.

When visiting a foreign country the president is well advised to be familiar with the customs of that country so as not to accidentally insult their host.

Different cultures interpret an action, gesture, etc. in different ways.

Nope. I didn't want to be accused of "hijacking" carpro's thread. I am simply pointing out that the leaders of both sides of the Demopublican Party do these kinds of things. I see no reason to be surprised that the leader of one side of the big government coin does the same kind of thing that the leader of the other side of the big government coin does.

Is holding someone's hand the same as bowing to them?

    I think not.

Holding hands is a symbol of mutual respect between peers.

Bowing to someone is a symbol of subservance to a superior.

Of course your hatred for all things Bush will not allow you to concede the difference.

I am much more concerned with Obama bowing to the Saudi king than Bush holding hands. Bowing shows a subservient position where holding hands is just creepy.

One thing though, is it possible to question anything Bush did without incurring the wrath of Targus? Is it possible to dislike both presidents without being accused of supporting what Obam is doing?

I agree that KenH has a habit of switching positions often and quickly, but at least give him the benefit of the doubt. If he does switch back to the democratic position, which I doubt he will do, it will be evident eventually.

If the current president were seen in this same photo instead of President Bush there would be total condemnation and no excuses for the behaviour. It would be given as evidence that he loves Islam.

I'd rather see a bow than two men walking around like one was a father and one a little boy, or two men walking around like boyfriend and girlfriend.

Well, we ought to be fine then...because Obama's been kissing the behinds of every other leader in the civilized world since he took office...

The problem is that Obama bowed to the Emporer, but the Emporer did not bow back to Obama.

So, when a man bows to a woman prior to dancing with her, he is showing subservience to a superior? Ummm, I don't think so. Maybe, just maybe, there are other reasons for bowing besides a show of subservience?

A man bowing to a woman is different than a man bowing to a woman.

    Context is everything.

I'm confused...so what you are saying is that a man bowing to a woman is different than a man bowing to a woman?! Wow...that's deep man!

    Typing error :type:

It should have been - A man bowing to a woman is different than a man bowing to another man.

But then you already knew what I meant. :)
